Oh where oh where can my Avosil be?

After hearing some were trying a OTC topical cream AVOSIL for tumor reduction, I tried several Pharmacist to see if they stocked the product. Most said "HUH??" never heard of it, by itself or mixed with an additive as a prescription. But anyone looking for some can find it on Amazon $40 for a 4 oz. tube. LOL everyone!!

Not sure what your point is? As I posted on another thread this information has actually been around for quite awhile. I can assure you that when I first heard about it it did not come from anyone selling the product, not even from an NF patient.

There was someone else on this BB this past winter who was trying it for hyperpigmentation...not sure if we ever heard how that worked out. Where that person learned of avosil, I couldn't say. The other thing is that if the original poster wanted people to buy it direct then why would he mention that a second ingredient was added...makes no sense. Who he is or what his motives are I've no idea. It wouldn't be the first time that a researcher threw a fishing line in here but that doesn't seem to be the case either. Apparently Pharmacists can get the product direct from Avocet. You also have to remember that Avosil is just the name brand...not the active ingredient.

Sorry if I came across as trying to drum up business for Amazon. That was not my intent. I had read that it was used along with Vitamin D or salicylic acid mixed in (prescription strenth) to reduce the size of tumors, within a couple months. The cream by itself was suppose to be available at Walgreens,CVS, etc. Personally I thought I would try one tube on a few tumors and see what happened, maybe by itself, without the extras, there might have partial improvement. None of the drug stores had it, but I did find it on line. It is a bit expensive. I was only passing on what I had found to anyone else who might want to try it. thanks for your help.

No, I'm sorry. I thought you were saying something entirely different. I thought you were saying that the original posters only motive was drumming up business for the online sale of the stuff. I misunderstood.

Hi Baileysboots,

I was just wondering how did the Avosil work out?

By itself, there was no results. I never heard how it worked out for the person who had pharmacist mixed with another coumpound (Vitamin D derivative, if memory serves). If there ever was something that reduced the size of tumors, this site would probably crash with all the business.

There have been a couple people here who posted that they noticed an improvement with avosil shrinking tumors and some that say it didn't do anything for them. The problem is that we don't know EXACTLY what people are using. I can't imagine that avosil alone would show significant results but some people are also using it in conjunction with vitamin D cream.... and some people are using the avosil with verapamil mix.... and some are using all three, the avosil/verapamil with a separate application of vitamin D. We might as well be comparing apples and oranges. I wish those that have posted on this would come back and be very specific about what they've used, otherwise there isn't much point in drawing conclusions based on incomplete information.

Oh and I just remembered something that I had completely forgotten before. When I first heard of the avosil a year or two ago (at that time I believe it was just avosil and a separate application of vitamin D without the verapamil), I believe that it was supposed to have the best results on newly formed neurofibromas. So I wonder if that would be another consideration?

Cindy

Cindy, I used just the Avosil ointment, and I just applied a thin layer over a couple tumors on the back of my hand. Maybe twice or three times a day for about 10 days. Not a very scientific test eh? I had difficulty in finding it. Pharmacies didn't have it or could not get it (Longs, CVS. Rite-aid, wall-mart) Finally found it on Amazon. I was going to try finding some Vitamin D cream and mixing the two, but what ratio? Don't feel like experimanting on myself. Have to look into verapamil & research it. Thanks..you may not be an "expert" (who is here?) but your knowledge, info & threads are quite helpful

I didn't think the vitamin D cream was usually mixed in but is a separate application? I believe the vitamin D cream is prescription only in the U.S. as it is in Canada...its the type prescribed to psoriasis patients. Vitamin D cream has been suggested to reduce pigmentation and possibly inhibit neurofibromas for at least a decade so that hypothesis isn't new by any means. I gather that sometimes the avosil is combined with 15% verapamil.

You raise an interesting point....we also don't know how long others tried this.

Cindy

Hi Cindy,

Save your money -- I tried it too --- did nothing.
debbi

Tried what specifically? Avosil with 15% verapamil added by the pharmacist and a separate application of vitamin D? How long did you try it for?

Thanks
Cindy
