On October 11, Gov. Quinn appointed Michelle Saddler, his current top aide for policy, to head the Illinois Department of Human Services. She will replace Carol Adams, who will now head Illinois's trade office in Africa. Adams will get a salary of $110,000 and a housing expense for her new position.
This change at DHS could be good or bad for us on disability who currently rely on Illinois's DHS to help us.
Carol Adams, in my opinion did a terrible job as head of DHS. One of Adams assistants was caught in a sex scandal with a state employed chauffeur and Adams was never held accountable for her employees actions although the assistant was fired. She also allowed employees at DHS field offices in my opinion to be mean and slow in processing paper work. Yet, DHS employees are overworked.
I am hopeful that a decent change will now occur at DHS. Yet, Gov. Quinn can appointed anyone he chooses without having to get approval from congress and Saddler is one of Quinns top aides. I am sure there are no coincidences here.
