If you've read my profile, you'll know that I love spiders. Yes - spiders. When I find them indoors, I will relocate them to a more suitable location - outside or, in the colder months, to our heated/attached garage. How do you relocate a spider, you ask? Easy. Take a glass, put it over the spider. Wedge a sturdy piece of paper/cardboard under the glass. Firmly pick up the paper/glass and take it to the desired location. Set the glass on the ground, gently take the sheet out from the glass, and tip it on it's side. Voila!
Well, anyways - I was in the bedroom and noticed a black speck in one of the corners. I was all set to get ready to locate it, but on closer inspection, I noticed that it was a black spider - small with spindly legs and a web that looked kind of messy - almost like a cotton ball that had been pulled apart (Black Widow spiders have webs that look like that. They also have very spindly legs). I was wondering if it was a Black Widow, so I went and got a flashlight to see if I was right. Well, lo and behold, I saw the faint, red hour-glass shape on it's belly/back. Crap! That's the first time I'd ever run into one. Given the fact that I have 5 cats who like to explore and go after small, moving objects, I had no other choice than to get out the Raid and exterminate it. :-( I don't want to risk anything bad happening to my cats, nor me and my hubby. After I sprayed it, she whithered on down and staggered into the crack between the wall and the baseboard. :-(
Seriously - I do feel guilty. My thinking is that she got in from the outside through some sort of crack - in our foundation, perhaps? And made her way to the crack between the wall to our bedroom and the baseboard.
Hopefully I'll never have to do that again - but I'm glad I got to her before one of my cats did - she was at a cat's eye level.
Any other spider lovers on this bb? I didn't think so. o_O
