Hello,

I have not done this but there is someone on the CTF board who has. If you go on the website look on the discussion board and go into general discussions and look into the post "I am going to be a dad" there is a member there who has done it. Sorry if it is complicated!!

thanks very much

I'm the one Reeny's referring to (unless there's someone else there that's also going through it).

I believe that its just as important to find a top-notch IVF clinic as it is to find a PGD lab that can do NF. I say that with the belief that what good is determining which embryos have the gene and which ones don't unless you give yourself the best odds of getting pregnant.

For PGD, two of the labs that do the testing for NF, are Genesis Genetics (located in Detroit) - our IVF clinic recommend them and they were tremendous. Excellent communications and after they have everything they need to build the "probe" which will test for mutation, the director of the lab himself will call and talk to both of you (conference call if necessary) to further explain the process and answer any questions you may have.

Another lab that I've heard that does the PGD for NF is Reproductive Genetics Institute (I believe they're located in Chicago).

Genesis says the test is something like 97-98% accurate, if I remember correctly, but if you ask more questions, the false-negative rate is about 5%. The wife & I just had amniosantesis to confirm the PGD finding and the amnio came back negative.

If anyone has any questions from the husband perspective (and I'm the one with NF) just ask away.

was your IVF covered at all by insurance?

When the IVF clinic first filed the preapproval form, the insurance company to my surprise approved PGD, but denied the IVF on the grounds of no history of infertility.
I called the company and filed an appeal letting them know that it is impossible to do PGD without doing IVF. It took a few months, but they reversed their decision (we won our appeal).

Hi! Can you please send me more info on IVF and PGD. I have NF1, mild. My hubby and I are talking about having another baby and I want to ensure my child does not get NF. Thanks!
