I would only get checked if you have symtoms of NF. If you start having any pain or bumps. Especially if your eyes start bothering you or start to have headaches. You don't really want to expose yourself to an MRI if you don't have to.
How does your mom know if she has NF? What are her symtoms?
we both have nf just not sure if it is nf1 or 2 but we both have bumps all over our body she has them worse than me. Most of mine are on my stomach and back i have a few that are on my legs and arem and one on my forhead......im not in any kind of pain or anything i get one everyonce in awhile that hurts or itches but it always goes away...
I thinking getting one baseline MRI of your head and spine with and without contrast is good, so you get a good look now while you have no prblems so it can be compared to one you may need later on down the road when you may feel sick. Don't do an open MRI! I had one and it did not show my brain tumor. For some reason my doc wanted me to have another one at a different place. I did and the brain tumor was right there..I can even see it.
I defintely think a diagnostic MRI would be good. You have a small tumor and don't know it because it so small, but it will grow and cause problems. If they catch it now they can take it out now before the tumor could do you harm. Good Luck
Good luck
dababyrn2006,
I was wondering why you don't think doing a MRI is not a good thing. My doctor told me there is no radiation in MRI that it just bounces your neurons around. Do you know something different? i would really like to know if you know of anything different. Can you please send me your reasonings?
Thank you.. if you prefer to e mail me that would be nice, since I have the flu and don't get to Read Team Inspire everyday now. stuartdebby@sbcglobal.net
Thank you,

Sweetiecat,
If you go to natural news.com they are warning about the die used in the MRI's. And I was concerned about the money situation that they may have. That is all. I worked in the medical field for a long time and I have seen things that make my family go with them to the hospital everytime, even though they know it is hard on my body. I don't know if you were having headaches or what made you have the mri but it is still a dangerous procedure. I guess you are correct in suggesting the base, but like you said you have to
be careful of where you go.
And a side note, I had to have an mri of my lumbar spine and most of the contrast was lost because the person didn't know how to do it properly.
I have my MRI on wednesday week and i cant wai! At least i will know if im okay of if there is somethin going on! i have one every 2-3 years
I am 27 I have had MRI’s my whole life. I would get one, its important to stay on top of this condition. I have NF1 and have yearly check up in Boston Mass., their number one researcher in NF studies. I just had my appointment the other week.
Im 28; have them every year due to optic glioma & brain tumor which was removed. Feel like I know more then techies since MRIs and & date back to 1984/85; before US hospitals had the machines. (went to some clinic near Washington DC)... Its always good to keep up with your NF; took a year off when I had braces on my teeth; thats when brain tumor showed up (once I had braces off & had MRI)
