I'm not a fan of chain resteraunts. Food is more than sustainence for me. More than a hobby. You can taste the passion in great food cooked by a chef. There is a WORLD of difference between a COOK and a CHEF. Great food is better than sex, drugs or rock and roll. If you think I'm crazy, then you are eating at the wrong places. A great meal rivals the best moments of your life. Next to the birth of my son, my happiest moment was at Jester's in San Francisco. I had a hand made, goat cheese ravioli with vegetables, a bottle of Moet White Star and creme brulee for desert. A trully great moment in my life.
3 locally owned places
the winery, best beef wellington ever!
dolce vita, an italian place here....the menu is writtten in Itaian..so pain in the butt to read menu.but the food is HEAVEN!
and place called BIN 707 for the best Lobster ever!!
(by the way if red lobster is the only place youve had lobster.....then you have not had lobster!)
Applebee's Bob Evans, and Texas Roadhouse
Agreed stumpy, the sorry excuse for seafood that Red Lobster tries to pawn off on unsuspecting land lubbers is almost CRIMINAL. I went to a place in Bangor that had some AMAZING fresh "was swimming in the ocean this morning" lobster. And how can anyone eat cooked fish after having the fresh, clean, crisp taste of good sushi? Its crazy talk.... we gotta chill sometime and co on a food crawl.
Seems funny that everyone has at least one of their top 3 that is a unfamiliar chain. Guess it is either a east coast vs. west coast chain or I need to eat out more (I'm only a fair cook). My 3 (probably unfamiliar to you are: Tahoe Joes, cool hand Lukes & Olive garden. Calif. chain MiMi's (blues & Jazz motif) has great speciality and bistro type meals. Yum Yum. :-)
I luv panda express , in and out burgers and jack in the box
Ooooo yah.. In and Out. Yum. Panda express.. not soo much. I really HATE fast food. Most chain places too. Passion is what makes food great. Real chefs dont work in chains.... When somone puts love into what they do and is free to create, you can taste it in the food.
Rosies: local owned Tex-Mex with the best faj and margarita's. Lucky for me I am friends with one of the oweners and he makes them at his house just as well. Pita Stop in B-ham which is a locally family owned Medditerrian/Lebanese restaurant that awesome hummus and kabobs. It is family run and we don't even have to order when we go in, they know us and just bring out our food. Then I would have to say Reginas-pizza/Bovia-pastery with melt in your mouth carrot cake etc/and Giamoas (not sure of that spelling) for ANYTHING but esp the lobster ravioli-all in Boston's North End. Some truely authentic Italian. I have to agree with the other posters who despise chain restaurants. I love the originality of local stuff and the quality of the ingred. all usually superior which comes out in the flavor. Will have to take Guilty sporks word that good food is better than sex but i do love a good bottle of wine and some sinful food. And being a lover of food I would have to say that I am one of my favorite restaurants. love to try new things and share them with friends and family. A good meal, good bottle of wine and good friends is a truely great night!
Texas roadhouse
loanstar &
outback!
I absolutly love BBQ Ribs and Steak. So I guess I could say anyplace that has awesome ribs and steak is a favorite of mine!! ;-)
Aubie, have you ever been to Salem Beer works? they had the biggest shrimp I've ever seen in my life... like WOAH!!! Seriously, they were bigger than some lobsters I've seen. And then there was Friendly Toast in New Hampshire (I think) they made great fries covered with blue cheese crumbles and jack cheese with a strawberry-jalepeno jelly.
