Netty,

I haven't had the procedure so I can't answer your question. I would imagine however, that it can take a few months for the redness to fade. I am curious, where did you get your procedure done? I have talked to three dermatologists in Northern Nevada and none of them will do the CO2 laser. Also, is it covered by insurance? Thanks so much!

Hi Netty,

Neither my Primary Care, Neroligist; I know it is spelled wrong, or my Dermotoligst, have ever never mentioned CO2 laser my Dermo, wants to cut it off?? and said their are no other options, I guess their are

Hi Netty it can take a couple of months before the redness goes i have had laser treatment and surgery all over my back and torso but on my face i only had a couple removed with surgery then stitched and the results have been brilliant.

Sorry i am in the uk

I had CO2 laser treatment to remove neurofibromas on my hand and shoulder about 2 years ago. It was a disappointing experience. All the lesions came back. It took about 2-3 months to heal and for the redness to resolve. I have subsequently seen Dr Weinberg in NYC three times. He performed electro-desiccation surgery and re-treated the lesions initially treated with CO2 and removed an additional 500 or so. Dr. Weinberg explained to me that CO2 treatment is not as effective because it does not go 'deep enough' into the tissue.

Hi again Netti im in the UK to just tried to find you on facebook but can't see you there

Hi Morris ive heard a lot about this electro-desiccation surgery how good is it and are you left with scars instead of lumps?

Hi there Polarman! I am thrilled with the results of my electro-desiccation surgery. Some of the pictures from my surgery are posted on the ctf.org web site on a thread similar to this one. I had 3 surgeries. The first focused on my face, truck, arms, and hands. The second focused on my back and buttocks. During that surgery, I also had a golf ball sized lipoma removed from my right buttock. The third surgery focused on removing sub-cutaneous lesions and 'clean up' for 'missed' lesions or lesions that needed a second treatment. My face has no scarring. My neck, chest, hands, and arms have flat, white scars, which are infinitely better than bumps and reddish lesions. (In my opionion) I was really at my wit's end when I first went to NYC to have a consultation with Dr. Weinberg. I did not feel that I could live with myself. My case of NF is externally mild or moderate. Internally, my case is severe. I have a ventricular shunt to correct hydrocephalus, an optic glioma, and metal rods in my back to correct scoliosis. I am so thankful that I have good insurance, which covered most of the cost of my surgeries. Dr. Weinberg really understands NF patients. Ask me any other questions you want. Take a look at the ctf site if you are interested in seeing some of my pictures and those of others.

Sorry, that should read 'trunk', not truck! I only wish they were on a truck!

whats your name and i will try to find you

Hi Nettyj its Paul Lambert

Hi Morris I think i will look into the surgery next year. I have heard that it can be quite expensive as live in the uk i would have to travel unless I can find some one here that does it.

Morris, I have a question for you. I had ED done on my hand in may by Dr. W. I just wanted to test it out on a small area to see what the results were before getting it done on a larger scale. It's 5 months and my scars are still red, he said it would take about 6 months to heal. Did your hands take longer than the rest of your body to heal? I know that the face heals faster than other areas. i'm just hoping that hands heal slowly. Thanks!

My hands did take longer than my face. My forearms also took longer. I do remember that the fading seemed to 'accelerate' at some point. My friend Nancy, who often posts to the ctf site (her name is not2night) faded more quickly than I did. Hers were white by about 6 months. We often compared our healing, as we had our surgeries only about a month apart from each other. I am now at 1.5 years and all I have are white flat scars. They look no different that 'sun-spots' that some women develope on their chests.

Thanks Morris!
