each case is different. i had one removed from my arm over 10 years ago that has not grown back at all. i also had another one removed that grew back almost right away. i don't think that the dr. got it all. this one was a soft fibroma. the other one was a little harder and looked like a pencil eraser.
Hi godisgreat, as PVa says it depends on individual cases. I had a number removed from my scalp when I was a teenager, some grew back and some didnt...I think it could have been influenced by the WAY they were removed. I believe some were cut away from the nerve, where with others the nerve was 'trimmed off'.
i am getting a tumor removed from my scalp this month and am terrified ...i can`t stop thinking about them sticking a needle in my head to freeze the area ...and i`m worried they will have to shave some of my hair to do it... i don`t know anyone who has had a tumor removed from their scalp so i can`t ask anyone questions about it
I had a big tumor removed from my head and they did not have to shave the area I was kind of surprised there is a scar but it is hardly noticeable. and if they have to shave it will grow back I got to wear a bandana to work for a while it was great fun..
Im curious about the scalp tumors. I have about 4. They are in on the inside though (does that make sense?) is that the case for you all? They hurt, I used to love having my head massaged, now it hurts way too much. I was just telling my husband the other day I wanted to get them removed. please let me know your expericnce with it. Thanks!
Mine came right back. I didn't even get use to not having it anymore, it grew back so fast.
I think mine is comming back I can feel it.. but its under the skin.. had it removed in 2006 and now it almost 2010 I think thats pretty good.. almost 4 years!
Mine did not grow back, but new ones came around where the old one was,
As for shaving part of the head, it depends upon the skill of the surgeon, some can manage to remove the bumps without shaving.
I had one removed from my back about 6 years ago. It was about the size of a grape. It started to grow back about 2 years ago, luckily it is still the size of a pin head. I have had now more appear around that area. I think it depends on the sergeons skills and how severe the condition is to begin with.
I had one removed from over my eye in the brow area and so far it has not grown back..I think it has been 7 or 8 years.
I had a few removed...The small 'pea/polyp' type did not regrow.
Of the 4 grape size and golf ball size, one did have some regrowth, the egg size on my forehead was not totally removed and continues to grow very slowly.
Thus.... IMHO...
Regrowth depends on how well the surgeon removed the tumor.
And to a lesser extent the type, size, and location.
if they dont hurt leave them alone, any opening of the skin and if the doctor cant remove all of it it might spread that what i was told bye my doctor at childen hospital when i was a kidd
Hi godisgreat:
Like others said, it depends. I have had many removed and some came back, some didn't. My plexiform on my right leg has been operated on 7 times and they tell me that they can't really operate on it again. I have lost some sensation and some areas are hyper-sensititve to touch. They tell me with this one, because it involves so much nerve and muscle that I could develop drop foot or worst case scenario, lose my leg ---
Every case is different. I am now going to be having surgery on my left hand due to nodules that have been removed but they are painful and itch like a "SOB", so even if I get 3 or 4 years of relief, I feel like its worth it.

Like others here, I have had several neurofibromas removed. Some have grown back and others have not.
One surgeon told me that if he can't get to the "root" of the neurofibroma then it will grow back. That probably explains why some have come back and others have not.
Kinsac, I had four removed from my scalp and neck area last winter. Aside from the needle to freeze and numb the area everything was pain free. Like you I was also frightened of having my scalp operated on.
My doctor did not shave any hair. However, I had to apply antibiotics each day while the stitches were in. This was like Neosporin gel. The gel was so thick and sticky that it got on my shirt, pillow case, etc. It also messed up my hair.
While it might not be enjoyable to get part of your hair cut away consider doing so. I would first ask your doctor if you have to use any gel like stuff while the stitches are in and if s/he will be cutting away hair. That is what I would choose to do next time.
Good luck.
Thank you for your responces..just knowing it`s not that bad to get a needle in the head helps alot ...i`ve had many removed from other parts of my body but the one on the scalp is the only one that was bothering me to have removed..i`ve been on a waiting list for 2 years so when they finally gave me the date all i could think of was the needle but now you all have eased my mind some.....thankyou so much
