Hi,
I am in stage 3 and was just switched to norvasc because my bp is high and my kidney function is worse. The last two days I have been tingly, starting in my arms and legs and now it's everywhre. I'm also very swollen. It feels like when your foot falls asleep then wakes up. I have a call in to the doctor but I would really like to know if anyone else has had this experience????Thanks! :)

Well I called the doc and he didn't want me to come in but he gave me a new bp med. I'm still swelled but not as much as earlier and I still feel tingly but not as bad as before. Anyone use atenolol? That's the new one he put me on. Or has anyone used the norvasc that I was on? Thanks!
I can not believe that he didn't want to see you! Can you go to Urgent Care?
I looked up the Norvasc:
Dizziness, lightheadedness, swelling ankles/feet, flushing, or headache may occur. If any of these effects persist or worsen, tell your doctor or pharmacist promptly.
To reduce dizziness and lightheadedness, get up slowly when rising from a sitting or lying position.
Remember that your doctor has prescribed this medication because he or she has judged that the benefit to you is greater than the risk of side effects. Many people using this medication do not have serious side effects.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these unlikely but serious side effects occur: fast/irregular/pounding heartbeat, fainting.
Tell your doctor immediately if any of these rare but very serious side effects occur: vision changes.

Now I had Atenol in the beginning and had severe headaches. I changed Nephs due to the first one wouldn't listen to my side effects and care for me. My 2nd Neph took me off right away and put me on what I am on now. It worked waaaaaaaaaaay better for me.

Popsycle, are you seeing a neph or a GP. My neph told me to call him if I swell any at all. Usually swelling from failing kidneys begins in the ankles and hands and then spreads to your whole body. If you are swelling and the BP medicine is not bringing your blood pressure down, I would say your kidneys are not doing too well. That was my experience anyway. I had never had any kidney problems in my whole life, not even a kidney infection until I was 58. I started swelling first in my left ankle and then the right ankle and my hands. I went to my GP and she added and changed BP medicine for several weeks but my BP was off the chart. She sent me to a heart specialist and he added more and stronger BP medicine and I was gaining about 9 lbs a week and still the BP was off the chart. If my left ankle puffs up any at all which has happened twice in the past two years, I call the neph. He told me to cut back more on salt and if the swelling was there the next day to come into his office. I recommend you get a second opinion ASAP. My husband who does not have kidney disease has taken Norvasc with no side effects. I had the tingly feelings when my kidneys were down but not since they are working again. Good luck and make an appointment with a good neph. It can't hurt and it may help.

I thought I was all better then about 6 hours after I got up I got tingly. I'm still a little swollen but not as bad as before. I have been tingly for three days now and I have been taking 20mg of furisimide instead of 10mg. I wouldn't think that would cause it though. My bp is down to a normal amount, actually at times a little low for the first time in three weeks!
Baussaaur- I see a nephrologist. He is one of four or five in his office and seems to be one of the leading ones in the area, I like him but sometimes he doesn't explain things enough.
Mekhiasmom- I'm on cyclosporin 100mg once a day, furisimide 10-20mg, atenolol 40mg, pravistatine 20mg I think.
If I'm still tingly I'm calling and making sure I see someone by friday. I'm going about 2 hours away for the weekend and want to feel good! Thanks everyone for the info!
Ok, one more thing I thought of. I get tingly the most not long after I eat. I have just started a low sodium diet last week and for the most part have cut my sodium intake in half or more. Maybe my kidneys are working harder to deal with the salt after I eat? Hmmm..... I'm so frusterated!
