The NephCure Walk, Saving Kidneys - Saving Lives program completed 10 fundraising walks in 2008. We are excited to announce that over $250,000 was raised to fund research into finding a cure for Nephrotic Syndrome with the help of our fantastic volunteers.

We are dedicated to grow and to continue to fund more research and we need YOUR help!

Have you considered holding a NephCure walk in your community?

Make a difference in your community. Walks are a great way to bring together other families in your community who are dealing with similar situations, raise awareness for Nephrotic Syndrome and FSGS, and raise money for research all at the same time!

Please contact Ivy Cohen at icohen@nephcure.org, call 610.540.0186 ext. 20 or simply reply to this message. We will provide you with all of the materials you need to get started and guide you through the planning steps.

Hi everyone,

My name is Meghan Beierschmitt, and I am currently interning with The NephCure Foundation. Everyday I learn something new about this wonderful organization, whose mission is to seek a cause and cure for two potentially devastating kidney diseases, FSGS and Nephrotic Syndrome.

My boyfriend’s 5 year old cousin, Hannah, was diagnosed with Nephrotic Syndrome when she was just 2 years old and has been undergoing treatments ever since. I didn’t learn of The NephCure Foundation until I met Hannah, and from there, her sweet little face urged me to make a contribution to an organization that provides information, research, advocacy, and so much more to patients and their families. On April 26th of this year, I am making my own form of a contribution by running the Central Park Women’s Half Marathon. If you are a runner, and have ever dreamed of doing a marathon, half marathon, 5K, 10K, triathlon, or whatever your heart desires, now is the time to start the training.

The idea of running and getting into shape can be extremely daunting, but the idea of running for a reason and supporting a worthwhile cause sometimes is the push we need to put one foot in front of the other and start moving. All you have to do is find an event in your area, sign up for it, contact us, start training, and the fundraising will follow suit.
Check out my webpage for an existing example of how simple it can be: www.active.com/donate/megruns.

Also, another great way to make your own contribution to The NephCure Foundation is by becoming involved in The NephCure Walk. There are already walks set up across the country, but we need more walk leaders to bring The NephCure Foundation into their own communities to help spread awareness of the disease, build support, and to raise money for research. In 2008, the Walks raised over $250,000, imagine the possibilities. For more information on the walks and how to get involved check out our website at http://www.nephcure.org/step-forward-walk.htm. The NephCure Walk is such a great way to bring your community together in fighting for a cause that needs your help.

Thanks,
Meg Beierschmitt
