Thank you- prednisolone vs. cytoxan

Thank you all so much who responded to my questions. You all were a great help.
I spoke with our Neph doc this morning and she explained that our daughter is considered a frequent relapser. She wants to break her from the high dose of pred. which is 15mg/5ml and she takes 6ml 2x a day. She was down to 4mls 2x day everyother day but relapsed again. We are hesitant to give her cytoxan. I know at this point there's not much of a choice. If anyone has info or advice for cytoxan please share. Thanks again. 3+

Cytoxan was the answer to our prayers. My daughter just finished her 12 week Cytoxan treatment and she has been in remission for 12 weeks now. That is the longest she has been in remission since she was diangosed in December of 2008. However Kenzie has been off of school this week. She came down with a flu and we are not sure if it is H1N1 yet. The results from her swab will come in today. God please pray this doesn't make her relapse again. She has been doing so well. Cytoxan was not as bad as I thought it would be. My daughter did wonderfully on the drug.

Shermil,
Please keep us posted on how Kenzie does. Nick finished his cytoxan treatment over a month ago, and has been off of prednisone for 3-1/2 months now. His Neph does not want Nick to get the H1N1 vaccine (or any other for that matter), so I'm living on pins and needles daily. I hope Kenzie does well through this, please keep me posted on her situation.

Lovemykayla,
Cytoxan did the trick for us as well, but it's always something. I don't remember if you've had a biopsy done? I suppose the treatment is the same regardless...I am happy with the results of the cytoxan treatment, but would be weary doing it during cold/flu season. We stared at the end of July (although, I guess seasonal allergies could take their toll as well).

JenBres I just got the call from the doctor and she tested positive for H1N1 so I guess i no longer need the vaccine. My neph told me to get the shot but nobody around here had it. She is so sick. She could hardly lift her head yesterday. She only had four days left to take the Cytoxan and her Neph told me to quit giving it to her now that she can no longer have it because of this flu. Ugh I just hope this doesnt bring on a relapse. Kenzie has been off the prednisone for two weeks now. I hope to keep her off of longer than that. But anyway she is positive and she is pretty sick. The doctor put her on a drug called Relenza I just hope it helps her fight this off quicker.

Shermil,
I will keep her in my thoughts...poor thing...Sounds like she got through most of the Cytoxan treatment, so that may be a good thing as far as preventing relapse. She looks like a strong, beautiful girl...it's amazing what our children end up teaching us!
I will keep her in my prayers. Best wishes.
