New Swine Flu Shot

2 Recommendations

I am confused if the new swine flu shot is a good idea for adults/children with NS or MCD. I have already read that they should not receive vaccations. Anyone been advised by their doctors or Neph. doctors? Please advise. Thanks.

Every year I get the flu shot but I don't think I am going to get the N1H1 vaccine yet. I am going to hold off on that just because it is to new and when your on immunosuppressants you don't want to take a chance. So I would just ask to see what your PCP and or Neph say. Then you can make an educated decision about getting the N1H1 shot.

My daughter's Neph told us to ABSOLUTELY get the flu shot and we have every single year. Also my best friend's husband is an adult Neph and he always has his patients get the flu shot.

thanks for the information. I appreciate it.

Yes, I was advised to get both flu and swine flu shots. Swine flu shots are made like flu shots. The swine flu shot is not a live vaccination. There is absolutely no harm in getting it because you cannot become ill from the shot itself.

be well

Hi! Have been getting the flu shot. For 7 yrs. Had a kidney transplant 3 months ago. They are giving both the flu and Swine Flu vaccine to transplants. Even though all of us are on immunosuppressants and antirejection
I advise for the flu shot, the swine flu vaccine is nrw, but if my transplant nephs and my regular Neph say get it, best believe I will! :)

Thank you all for this valuable information! We will all as a family get both shots for preventive measures.

hi

my son has minimal change neph is on pred and cyclosporin and our whole family is going tommorow for swine flu jab our doctor said we should as we are in a pandemic but I feel sick I am so worried we've never been off pred in two years of being diagnosed but now been in remmision for 5 months on cyclosporin i think we will go but still so worried !!!

I got my 5 year old vaccinated yesterday for swine flu. Its not a live vaccine so no harm should come of it.

Cheers

My partner was give both swine and seasonal flu shot together, one in each arm yestreday, he will need to go back after 3 weeks for 2nd swine shot.

No harm from the H1N1 shot??? Other then flu like symptoms after taking the shot. Or in some (hopefully) rare cases Guillian Barre Syndrome. Scares me. i don't know what to do. I can't sit on the fence much longer.

I am no doctor but the Swine Flu given via injection is a dead vaccine so atleast it should not produce Flu like symptoms.

Hi again
just to let you know we all went yesterday and got the h1n1 vaccine and my son who is neph got the seasonal flu too so far no change to protein in urine ingers crossed !!

thanks for your information and support. I appreciate it. Take Care

My daughter got the H1n1 shot Tuesday 11/3 and so far so good. We got the shot that only has a trace amount of the preservatives so that made me feel somewhat better. I am still nervous about GB and long term effects so I am not sure if I will let my daughter get the 2nd shot, I will have to continue researching it to decide.
This is such a tough call.

I got the regular flu and Pneumonia vaccine last week and am headed for the H1N1 vaccine clinic tomorrow.

My transplant neph said no H1N1 nasal mist, but just the shot....unless I was immunosupressed. If so, then neither of the H1N1 vaccines.

I just watched a friend's child barely survive this H1N1...in ICU on the vent for 12 days = pure torture. If I had a child, there is no way I that I would let my child go without this vaccine, after witnessing what I have. Very sad.

My son Jack (6) had the H1N1 shot on Tueday. Several kids at his school already have/had the flu. On Thursday he had a 103.6 temp which came down with Tylenol. He had only temp and fatigue and a Trace of protein. On Friday I took him to the dr, they ckd him over and tested him for H1N1. It came back positive. Saturday he woke up still no fever, he has not had a fever since Friday morning and hasn't taken any Tylenol. His protein test still is Trace. This is such a puzzle but he is feeling better and not spilling protein, so if this is all he gets, I will take it ! Did he get from school or the shot????

Wow, KAnne. Very interesting that he got it right after the shot and that he is doing so well with it. Thank God!! My guess is that a dr would say he caught it prior to the shot and that he would have gotten it regardless of the shot. And maybe the shot is helping to make his course mild as his body is building immunity from both the shot and the flu? (I like that I think I know what a dr would say!! I am probably completely wrong!). Does this mean that he will have lifetime immunity to H1N1? Do you have to still get the follow up shot? Did the doc give you tamiflu? Is he on any meds for his NS? Sorry for so many questions, but it is really going around my daughters school as well so I want to know as much as possible (just like everyone else).
Here's to trace protein!!!

Keep in mind, H1N1 will NOT be covered under the Federal Vaccine Compensation Program, due to a Congressional Mandate. This means if you have an adverse reaction to the vaccine or even death, you CANNOT go after the PHAMA COMPANIES... because in order to due that you must go through the VCP 1st... but seeing your Not ALllowed that oppertunity ... you are JUST PLAIN OUT!!!

I saw my Neph doc on friday, he highly suggested I get the H1N1 shot. I already got the regular flu shot last week. No way would a Neph doc give that advice if they thought it would harm you.

Hello there. My daughter (8 y/o with NS) got the seasonal shot and then 3 weeks later the H1N1 shot. 3 days later she came down with flu like symptoms (sore throat, cough, fever, tight muscles)I called the doctor on call that day and as soon as he opend up her medical record he said "gp tp the pharmacy and her Tamiflu will be waiting there for her". I did not even have to bring her in and they asked me no more questions. This doctor who isn't even her regular ped. or her neph. said "we are taking no chances with her". The Tamiflu worked like a miracle and that evening she was still able to go Trick or Treating. He said that the H1N1 shot had not had enough time to work for her so it could either be a mild seasonal flu (mild thanks to the flu vaccine) or the beginning of H1N1 but either way they were going to treat it the same. It worked :)
