medic alert bracelets and fistulas

0 Recommendations

I met with my neph doctor friday, the good news is my gfr is about the same as a year ago... happy about that news.

I asked him if people with fsgs need to wear a medic alert bracelet once they have a fistula and he said no it isn't nessasary because even if you're unconsious in a accident or whatever if they didn't notice the fistula they would "hear" that it isn't right and would know to look for it. He said you won't die if by accident someone takes your blood pressure with that arm but it could hurt like crazy. Bottom line is he's never heard of a ckd patient wearing one for the sake of a fistula. That was one of my many many questions I keep coming up with... hope this helps others that will someday need hemo dialysis.

Hi - I wear a medic alert bracelet for the hemodialysis and allergies. The reason for buying one was my blood pressure went very low after I left the center. There was another patient there and called the Dr who came down to help me out. If no one was there except strangers, they might have passed over me, thought I was drunk or something, etc., and my husband very strongly emphasized my getting a bracelet to help an EMT help me out. The phone number on it, when called, has all my info, as well as which arm to take my pressure. I do feel more comfortable having it. Bye for now, Linda
