MCD and Pregnancy

Hello all.

Vanessa I have just read about you latest visit with your doctor about having babies. I too am interested in having children. Last week my husband and I talked with a high-risk OB at the teaching hospital here where I live. He was very optimistic about the possibility of having a child. He told me that as long as my creatinine was below 1.5 and my urine protein was less than 3grams that I was a good candidate for getting pregnant. Currently my creatinine is 1 and my urine protein is 640mg and I have been taking cozaar, cellcept and cyclosporine. Ultimately he wants me to be off all medications especially the cellcept and cozaar which are known to cause birth defects. He told me the cyclosporine could be used but that it may cause in uterine growth restriction (basically a small baby).

I have already stopped the cellcept and cozaar to see what happens with my remission. If my protein levels start going up I may start back with prednisone. The doctor did say that taking prednisone while pregnant was okay.

The visit was very promising he said that once I became pregnant that they would monitor me very closely.

I am keeping my fingers crossed for everyone. Please keep me posted on your path to pregnancy.

I too want kids. I was just told it would be okay. I was not given specifics, however I do know that I would have to change my bp meds and the prednisone is safe. What scares me about that is that I am so hungry on the steroids, I can't imagine being pregnant too. Please let us know how it goes, especially when you are pregnant. I would like to hear. I will not be trying for another year, but am anxious to start to minimize problems. From what I have heard as long as your kidneys aren't failing yet you will be okay. My are functioning still, so I am in a hurry to have a baby. I really want 4, but somehow I don't think I will make it through 4 pregnancies. I will adopt if I have to. The one thing I was told is that I would prob have to deliver at 36 weeks because of my kidneys and blood pressure. Good luck, and keep us posted.
