My father is in ICU right now. He is stuck in a continous afib loop, Dialysis, edema, olcers, he is type A positive,
it came on suddenly, He is on predisone, lasix, sorry my spelling stinks. I feel like the intensivist is lost, I am an only child. He has a strong will to live, how do I kick it back in remission! How does the kidney transplant list work? What do I do next? How do I comfort him?

Sorry to hear about your dad. Has he always had kidney disease? Has he ever had afib before? Or are you saying that this is the first time for all of this. Was he put on dialysis on an emergency basis? Is he diabetic? Something had to happen if this is all comletely new. A virus?? What are the doctors saying. Do you have any relatives? You are an only child but maybe his wife, brother, sister could help you ask questions. Make sure you get all the information about your dad so you can make educated decisions.
Take care

Hi,

Thanks for your response. My emotionAL coma and sequence of events has led me to not be logical. Logic setting in now I think. He has a history of Afib but it has always been intermittent. He has had a history of kidney problems but was just diagnoised with Neph syndrome about 6 weeks ago. The predisone he started taking puts his glucose levels high so now he is getting insulin. He does have an infection. Had major surgery last week to remove ulcers and bile is too thick to be relieved through tubes. He had emergancey procedure last night to suck out the gel like toxins. It is a continous cycle between the heart , kidney, stomach and I dont even know anymore. I am an only child. He is now on a assist respirtaor and say he may be a candidtate for dialysis soon. I am not a match for a kidney transplant. What now? Any help is appreciated though may be delayed due to my circumstance! Thanks so much!
