My GFR goes up and down. Is this the way it suppose to? My neph. seems to tell me You're a mystery. If so I do I know what stage I'm in? Will I ever know when I'm ready to start treatment? No help from neph.

Hey there... My GFR held steady ever since I knew about it and started tracking it (luckily it was 95)... My last labs show that it has suddenly dropped to 82... You are asking my exact question- will it come back up this month? Is this normal? Well, since it was an 82 I did not call my neph because I wasn't that worried about it but your question is one that I also have... I go to the neph on the 11th and I am going to ask him (and I have a GREAT neph) so I will let you know what he says after that...

Take care-

Linda

My GFR has stayed very consistant at my lowest I was at a 24 now I am at a 58-60ish which is not the best but a relief. Reason is when you get any lower than 21 the Dr.'s can put you the list for a kidney but I am glad that my Cytoxin is working I have one month left for this treatment and my spirit remains very positive becuase I am going to beat this problem. I am not going to let it run my life and thats how all of us should be, POSITIVE!!!!!
Anyways, I am not sure what it means when your GFR goes up and down. while writing this to you I googled your question and came up with this web site
http://www.kidneyfund.org/assets/pdf/gfr-fact-sheet.pdf
and should answer any questions that you might have. I f not you can google it, I just typed in GFR not stable. Hope this helps get a handle on things good luck to you and stay positive and to all who reads this. GOD bless and enjoy life.

Regina - your eGFR is calculated using your age, sex, and creatinine. Since creat fluctuates, your eGFR will fluctuate as well. It really all depends on what your body is doing at the time your blood work is taken. In fact, my GFR just increased from 33% to 35%.
