Bubbles?

OK, so I have this kidney disease I'm not going to say the name of ... because I've already said it and because I'm not saying it today. Not giving it the glory. LOL. But... it comes with Nephrotic Syndrome. What I want to know is... there have been many bubbles in my urine for the past few months. And I know that my protein was tested at +4 a few weeks back. Now, the last couple days, I've had fewer bubbles.... sometimes none! Could it mean that the urine protein level is coming down?! Please say YES... does anyone know?

From my experience with FSGS, which I have (by naming it does not mean it gives power, its just a name)... any way... I know that when my protienuria is down there are fewer to no bubbles/ foam in my urine... BTW on a funny note, does your neph. always ask how your pee is? Mine does every time, am I swear I am the only person who looks at my pee all the time. One time my mom was cleaning the toilet (which I didn't know) and I went to the bathroom and it was so foamy I freaked out, came screaming from the bathroom, because the cleaning solution go so foamy from me peeing!!! It was funny.. but any way my answer is yes, when my protein is down, my urine is not as foamy...

yes yes yes and continue give God the glory, reguardless.

I hope I didn't offend anyone with my attempt at humor... "not giving it the glory"....
I also have an anxiety disorder and started seeing a therapist again on Tuesday. I told her that I was going to pick one day a week I was just not going to say the name of my disease (Fibrillary Glomerulopathy). I tend to get focused on all the negatives, and to me, just simply saying the name of it can cause me to have it going in my head ALL DAY. I can't live like that. Gotta focus on positives and NO BUBBLES is certainly one of them! Thanks for your responses! -Pam

Pam,

Don't apologize for whatever helps you deal with kidney disease, because we all have our own ways. I am kind of the same, but when talking about it, I just basically recite the facts...as if I am not the one with it. Like you, if I think about it too much, I will cry ALL day and sometimes 2. So, sometimes it s just best for me to forget about it, since there is nothing I can do about it. I know all about anxiety as well :-)

Keep smiling!
Lee

Thanks, Lee!
And KidneyBeans, I'm 100% certain that you are not the only one who looks at your pee! I haven't peed without looking to guage the "bubble factor" in months ... LOL! I tell my friends that my mood can go up and down based on the amount of bubbles in my urine! The guys who work for my husband and I just laugh when I come skipping out of the bathroom singing "no bubbles!" TMI for them, I guess, but I don't care. It makes me just as happy to see no bubbles as it made me to see my kids do their business in the potty way back when!!!

KB - that made me laugh, I would run screaming too! I check out every pee and poop for over a year. I also have ulcerative colitis so I always checking for blood. I swear I would be so happy to put all my bodily functions under microscope and read my results daily.

Howdee - yes less bubbles is less proteins and John (on Nephspace) told me that smaller bubbles and if they go away quickly too that means less proteins.

I seriously wished I photographed my really foamy urine, I should have done it before each lab and added it to my notebook. Would that be execssive??? I wonder?

Dealing with a chronic illness alone is more than enough to give anyone reason to seek therapy. I keep on saying I am going to go, but for somereason I do not. I went before years ago and it really helped.

Take Care!
Beth

yes fewer bubles do mean lower dosages of protein in the urine

You guys might want to consider buying Albustix if you haven't already. I did it so I could get a little better estimate compared to looking at the color and amount of bubbles.

Buying Albustix was the best thing for my sanity. My neph thought it would make me too obsessive--but instead it keeps me from freaking out about the bubbles. If I'm less than 3+ I don't panic. Although, before I had the Albustix, I freaked out all the time at friends' houses or public restrooms because I didn't realize that cleaning supplies had any effect.

KStreza,

I was wondering that myself about the whole cleaning products thing making more bubbles.

Also, not sure I understand your statement, you are ok being less than 3 for proteins? I thought we were supposed to be 0?

Thanks,
Beth

Beth75,

I was told that if the Albustix are at 3+ for 3 or more days, than it's considered nephrotic range proteinuria. As I've been off Pred for almost 2 months, I'm thrilled that most days it's 2+ or less (no more drugs for me, please). On the days I spill more, I experience some pitting and usually a few pounds of weight gain---has nothing to do with my salt intake, and it goes away within a few days. After the protein is back down to trace or negative, I lose the weight. The day after a high spill day I have lower energy, but at least I know why now.

As long as my monthly blood work shows that my Serum Albumin stays above 3.5, my docs said not to worry. Because I have the weird kind of minimal change that seemed to start with nephrotic syndome & kidney failure (ATN), but has progressively improved, my doctors and I seem to be along for the ride.

Hope that helped....

KStreza,

Thanks that is one of the most helpful responses I have gotten. I want off these drugs really badly and I still swell up some days but most I see no bubbles and am just so damn confused. What you say makes sense I am going to buy some albustix today. Can I just get the at the regular pharmacy or are they special order?

Thanks again.
I am glad you are doing well!

Beth
