I just got a total hip replacement due to the steroids basically eating away at bones. I had no idea that high dose steroids could cause so much damage. I have to get the other hip replaced and possibly a knee. Also have cataracts in one eye, gained a lot of lbs!, stretch marks from hell! All in one year! But the steroids saved my kidneys from transplant and death! Just be informed of side effects and have things checked by a doctor you trust! Wondering if anyone else had AVN?
I'm so sorry you have had so many problems. My husband was having terrible hip pain and so our family doctor had him have x-rays to check for AVN. Thank goodness he didn't have that, but we found out later that he had three thoracic spine fractures. He had already had a lumbar spine fracture the year before. He's had one cataract removed already and will have to have the other one done before long and takes drops every day to keep from getting glaucoma. He's 46 years old and has to walk with a cane all of the time and on bad days he has to use a walker. His kidney function is great though. We take the small blessings one day at a time.
