Adjuvant free H191 Vaccination or not?

0 Recommendations

Just wondering if anyone has info on pros/cons of the adjuvant free or adjuvant H1N1 vaccine. Our son has relapsed in October & am tapering his pred. Now on 40mg every other day. Have heard the adjuvant free only produces 25% of the antibodies (which would be less since he is on pred?) as oppose to higher percentage for the one with adjuvants. Totally confused now since a vaccine is what caused our son's NS in the first place, but schools are starting to shut down due to H1N1 and we have 2 older children to think of also. I am totally against unnecessary vaccines for our children now due to what happened, but may reconsider in this case. Nephrology is pushing for it. I worry about Polysorbate 80. We haven't even received the vaccine in our area yet, so still have time.

I am wondering...when you say adjuvant free, are your referring to a specific version of H1N1 vaccine?

My family and my son just received the H1N1 vaccine. In Canada, children are to receive 2 doses of the vaccine. However, that may be changing. As they feel one dose may be sufficient. Adults receive only one dose. We spoke with 3 different nephrologists (ours at Sick Kids Hospital in Toronto) and 2 in the states and they all recommended for him and our family to have the vaccine. As far as the regular flu vaccine, it is not in Toronto yet and most likely will not be here until January. I am hoping to not have that. However, time will tell. My son is on maximum dose of prednisone right now and we have been told he was able to have vaccine (H1N1), as this is different from the regular flu vaccine.
Not sure if this helps, but this is what we have done.
I know it is a very difficult decision, I wish I didn't have to deal with this in the first place. So, many things to think about.
Best of luck, Syma
