When our daughter was that age we really pushed the fruits, veggies and Cheerios. They are all pretty low in sodium. We allowed her have small snacks, frequently along with her moderate meal. It helped to let her snack so that she was not eating so much in one sitting. Check with your Nephrologist about how much fluid your child can have. This can help cut down on the water weight as for the steroids and the weight gain.... you just have to learn to hate a med that might help but has so many side effects. YUCK!!!
Good luck,

Thanks for letting me know how you dealt with it when she was 20 months old. Really appreciate it!
My daughter was a little over 2 when she was first diagnosed. We kind of did the same thing...I just pushed healthier foods for her to snack on. The good news is when her meds start tapering down her appetite goes back to normal. Right now we are on a maitenance dose and it's small enough that she's eating a lot less now than when she's on the full dose.
Thanks, that is good news, that it will go back to normal eventually!

dont worry too much about the increased appetite, its normal when on the meds, fruit and veggies made into snacks are brilliant, you will find this happens a lot, my son James is now coming 19 and still has MCNS but is almost 6ft tall and thin as a rake, i have photos of him when he is so bloated from water retention and appetite, but it does all work out in the end. Stick to the fruit and vegtables but make them into faces and pretty things to increase their interest in eating them. x hope everything goes well for you. take care God bless
