I'm a 39 yr old female w/osteoporosis in my spine & osteopenia in my hip. I had breast cancer 2 yrs ago & went through surgery, chemo & radiation. Then due to my high risk of other cancers, I had a hysterectomy & oopherectomy. Since I'm now in menopause, my Dr. ordered a DEXA to get a baseline. We were both surprised to see that I had osteoporosis. My series of tests w/the endoc.dr. didn't show any abnormalties to cause my osteo. so now he's talking meds. He can't tell me how these will affect me long term becuase there aren't enough long term studies. What are we younger ones to do? The main side effect that scared me was osteonecrosis of the jaw. The med he wants to put me on is Reclast. I'm just wondering if any of you are on that & what your Drs. say about the side effects of long term. Has anyone decided to just stay w/the calcium/vit. D & exercise instead?
