I was Diagnosed with osteoporosis, towards the end of 2007, at the age of 53. I was also told right away, that is, as soon as I laid down on the table for my DEXA exam, the machine could not align me correctly, because I also have scoliousis, but never knew it. I still do not know if I always had it but was never diagnosed, or perhaps it was caused by the onset of osteo.
I had my thyroid removed when I was 25 years old. I had a perfect molar removed in my early 40's due to bone loss in my jaw, which must have been the first sign of osteoporosis. I tore my ACL's in both my knees the right @ 42 years & the left one @ 52 years, & had both of them reconstructed.
I also did something awfull to what I call the balls of my feet about 3 years ago ( by walking all day in high heels) that was not diagnosed properly, by 2 different podiatrist I visited, and my feet still cause me tremendous pain. I live with a lot of pain in my left hip for over 10 years now, & on most days my lower back, both places where my osteo was diagnosed.
You'd think I am a wrek, but when you see me you cannot tell at all that anything is wrong. I now attribute all my ailments initialy to the removal of my thyroid gland, which I believe brought on the osteo prematurely. I strongly believe that all & everything else is osteo related. I exersise as I have all of my life, but now I have gradualy modified it for my age & my condition. I do pilates,(which I would strongly recomend) walk & ride my bike. Some few days I feel fine, & then there are days when everything is in pain.
My endrocronologist prescribed Forteo & yes there has been an improvement, all the way around, I still hurt, & the pain is in all the same places, but oh, it so much less. I have been on the Forteo 11 months & I will be having my next dexa in mid November. I will know then how much of an improvement I have received.
Thanks for litsening,
& would love the doctors opinion! What do you think?
Blankie!
