I've taken Reclast in February 2008. My endocrinologist reassured me it was a drug with very few and begnine side effects. I had doubts-- I told him about my medical history: I had parts of my small intestine removed at age 7 because of peritonitis; I had stomatitis (gum infection) as a teenager, other surgeries and tons of allergies. I told him I had had a wisdom tooth removed two months earlier and had been told of jaw problems associated with osteoporosis drugs. He convinced me I had nothing to fear and only people with very compromised immune systems had possible negative outcomes from this new drug. Unfortunately, this has not been so. I have been horribly sick for months now. I have bone growths in my mouth that appear like tori and exostosis. Some of my bones appear larger than others. In June I went through an episode of intense physical burning symptoms and almost simultaneously the bone growths in my mouth appeared. I've had a colonoscopy to rule out Gardner's syndrome. I've seen two dental specialists. My blood calcium is high even though I've stopped taking calcium supplements. I have constant pain in my left hear and both jaws. I have aches all over my body and burning sensations on my neck, back and head. One of my jaws has become larger than the other. I used to weigh 120 lbs, now I'm 110 lbs. I could go on and on. My endocrinologist basically abandoned me--He gave me some valiums and told me to see a dentist. It's my primary physician that is sticking with me and ordering tests and labs. I've been on unpaid medical leave for three months, but are unable to go back to work. They offered me Cobra coverage so that I'll be able to continue receiving medical care. I'm fortunate to have some equity on my home and that's what I am using to pay for bills and medicals. I only wish they can find out what's wrong and that I don't develop ONJ. I'm terrified. This is a horrible nightmare.
