treatment options for pre-menopausal women

hello,
I am a 31 year old woman with severe osteopaenia. I am doing all the recommended things like the calcium, vit D, wieght bearing excercise and I am taking the pill for oestrogen because my period is irregular to non-existent.
I want to take a more agressive approach and am looking into the possibilty of bi-phosphonates, strontium ranelate and even HGH .
Can anyone recommend any of the above, or offer any further information?

I don't want to wait unitl I am technically post-menopausal to start a treatment but most of the prescription drugs are only prescribed for post menopausal women.

I am in the same boat. My doctor did prescribe Boniva for me to take. I took it for a few months and then after doing some of my own research dedicded that it was not right for me. So for right now I am doing the same things that you are and not taking any medications for it. I was to afaird of the possible side effects from the meds. Have you broken anything yet. If not I have been told that you are probably okay.

We suggest medications as a back-up plan because we have not seen much positive clinically when it comes to their use. When done properly, lifestyle changes are very powerful when it comes to building bones. There are 6 factors (all of which are important) that we suggest to our clients and our support group members. These are:

1. A diet that contains 50% fruits and vegetables. Fruits and veggies contain greater amounts of water and minerals with generally lesser amounts of
animal protein.
2. Adequate water intake for maximum hydration. Water is very important in helping the kidneys regulate pH and detoxify the body.
3. Daily stress reduction activities. This helps lower cortisol and homocysteine levels reducing calcium loss.
4. Year round vitamin D3 levels in the 50-80 ng/mL (or 125-200 nM/L).
This should be confirmed by 25-hydroxyvitamin D testing.
5. Progesterone levels in the .3 to .5 ng/ml. This should be confirmed by salivary testing.
6. Sufficient weight bearing exercise to stimulate balance and muscle growth which is essential for bone strengthening determined by regular full body strength testing.

As always, no one change will give the results you seek. The body is too complicated and finely regulated for that to happen.

I'm pre-menopausal as well but I have been on bisphonphonates for a few years. I went from osteopenia to osteoporosis very quickly due to digestive problems. I'm also on 100,000 units of vitamin D daily and the ortho evra patch. But I think you have to do all you can to stay away from osteoporosis medications until you desperately need them. They come with bad side effects, especially when taken for a long time. I heard the jaw problems are unbearable.

100,000 units a day???? Thats an incredible amount of Vitamin D. Why are you on such a high dose?
