Travelling internationally with Forteo

What do you do when you have to travel internationally with forteo? How do others handle this? (keeping it cold on the airlines, time changes etc)

Hi Addie~~Welcome to the Forum... We have a thread with a lot of good ideas on this board about this very topic from our fantastic contributors. I don't think we covered traveling abroad, but I think you could get some info from Eli Lily and the link below. If the link doesn't take care of all your questions just repost and someone will jump in.

Good Luck...

Eli Lily offers two types of travel packs, one for short trips and one for longer trips. I can't remember the time frames now but I think the latter was up to 10 hours of time. The airlines will also put your medication in a fridge (just don't forget to get it). However, if you are trekking through the desert, you won't be able to deal with the traveling and taking Forteo. I once went off for 10 days and left my medication behind. I simply added the 10 days to the end of my treatment. The drug person told me there was no protocol for this but I didn't want to miss an opportunity to travel, could not possibly have taken the medication with me since I was days in places without a refrigerator or place to refresh the ice pak, did not want to take the chance of spoiling such expensive medicine, and figured that in a 2 year regime missing 10 days for me was not like a diabetic missing insulin for 10 days. It was a risk I was willing to take. I suppose the other option is not to take trips for a two year period where you don't have access to refrigeration. You can't stop living altogether because you're on a medication which is helping you but one which will NOT kill you if you miss or skip if you absolutely have to do so.

Hi Ellen,
I noticed that you live in Chevy Chase. We are neighbours!
Would you be willing to share where you went for your
treatment for osteoporosis? I postponed going on Forteo
almost two years ago, but know I am going to have to deal
with my problem. Did you go to an endocrinologist in this
area? I would love to talk to you further - you could contact
me at liebedie@yahoo.com - I would appreciate it very much.
I live near Friendship Heights. Edie Patterson
