Still calcium in urine after parathyroid surgery

0 Recommendations

I had parathyroid surgery last July. My blood calcium is now good, but I still have calcium in my urine. Anyone else have this situation?
I'm now back on hydrochlorothiazid. But it sent my citrate levels out of whack last time I took this drug.

Hyperthyroidism Surgery

Hello,

I had parathyroid surgery 4 months apart several years ago when I fractured my foot and still menstruating. Fortunately I was somewhat informed and asked my gyn for a bone density and it was then discovered that I had parathyroid issues. My numbers went back up within 2 weeks after surgery. The dr. said that in 5% of the cases, they had to take out another gland. You should have your parathyroid (PTH) numbers checked again along with any other tests to find out if that is the problem. My calcium numbers are now within the "normal" range. Hope this helps.

I had parathyroid surgery, too. Yes, PTH should be checked periodically after surgery. Also, since one complication of PTHx is thyroid problems (because of the close proximity of the two glands), TSH and T4/Free T4 should be checked especially if you continue to experience new endocrine problems. Both hyerPARAthyroidism and hyperthyroidism cause calcium to leach from the bones.

Thank you for your replies. Right after surgery my blood calcium returned to normal, and still is, 6 months later. My PTH was and still is, low but in the normal range. It's just the calcium in my URINE now. My thyroid is OK. I'll check my medical records and try to get the TSH and T4/Free T4 tests you mention, if not already done.
Thank you for your help.
