Reclast

I have been reading your posts, I have been advised to take reclast. I am for some reason not sure if I should do this. I also cannot take the pills. I have been looking for anyone that had the treatment, please keep me posted on your feelings after treatment. Thanks

I can tell you what my concerns were, in making my decision to accept Reclast, but that won't be as useful to discuss as the concerns that you have. Can you say what they are?

Thanks for answering, I think the biggest thing is I am so allergic to so many medicines and as with a pill of course you just quit taking it, I took fosamax and I have severe chest pain and indigestion alot, and I wonder if this contributed to this. Then I tried actonel and the same thing happened. I have three wonderful Dr's that want me to do this, a GYN, Neurologist, and My Primary Dr. I just wanted to hear some responses from some one that had the treatment. I have read a lot of the posts. I have a consultation Feb 27. at our Osteoporosis clinic. This will help me to know what to Question. Thanks again.

I guess after your appointment you will know more. If you are having trouble with the pills, as so many people seem to have, probably you will consider Reclast. In addition to what's on this board and others, you may know also that you can google Reclast and read full details of the research that preceded FDA approval. There's a full chart of side effects experienced both by the test subjects who got Reclast and those who got the placebo, with percentages shown. Good luck with your appointment on the 27th---keep us posted.

Have you read the discussion called Reclast Infusion? There are several of us that have had this infusion and have posted our reactions. Seems like most of the reactions vary from person to person. I, myself had very few aches and pains. And ibuprofen helped with those. I had the Reclast infusion done because the Actonel was not working....my bone density was getting worse. My Rheumatologist told me that Reclast and the daily injections of Fortero are the only meds out there that actually increase your bone mass. Unfortunately I won't know if this is working for at least a year.

Just be sure and ask alot of questions about side effects and what you need to do before and what to be aware of after your injection. Good Luck...and let us know what happens!

My rheumy has also suggested that I start Reclast infusions, but after reading about the side effects I'm very reluctant to do so. I have fibromyalgia and OA, among other things, and a possible side effect of "bone or muscle pain" isn't something I'd voluntarily opt for considering what I deal with daily. But it may be worth it for you to pursue if your health is otherwise good.

The Forteo injections also work for some, and you do get used to the daily regimen of sticking yourself.

Do all the reading & research you can and then ask lots of questions!

I had my Reclast infusion on 2/5- I have severe RA and many years of prednisone plus a family history- Reclast os the first bone building treatment I have had- I also have major GI problems so any of the pills were out AND lately I have had longterm reactions to 2 drugs.....the only side effects I had to the reclast were 18 hours after the infusion I has very bad fever, chills, headache and fatigue....I think if I had known about the "drink lots of fluids on the day of infusion" I might have avoided some of that-
I have not had any other problems-

I can understand being scared to take something so new and the effects. I'm really sensitive to all types of medicines and vitamins, but when I couldn't walk on my own, Reclast seemed the only option I had left. I did have severe flu like symptons for a couple of days after. I also have had my acid reflux come back full force and the hot flashes were coming on every hour(those have subsided to less during the day). But the results of what this IV has did for me is well worth what I'm going thru with all the symptons. I have been able to walk on my own for over a week now and I am getting stronger every day. Yesterday I even lifted a pile of books and carried them a short distance. Everyday brings on another victory. I'm only 48 and do not want to spend my life walking with a walker and being bed bound like I have been the last few months. I have too much to live for. My grandkids are waiting to be played with!!! So these side effects are well worth it to me.

Wow, Tricia2! Does reclast really work that fast? I'm so glad it's helping you! May I ask you; do you have other health problems, or is osteoporosis the only reason you were using a walker? At 48?! It is scary because I feel fine, other than some back pain pretty often, but the Dr. said my bones were so bad that I could be in a wheelchair by the time I'm 60! and that's only seven years away! It freaked me out!!! I had reclast a couple of weeks ago, but I don't see any difference yet....... I was wondering how long it takes to work.
Thanks.

I just had my first Reclast infusion yesterday. So far no side effects. I'd like to hear how everyone is feeling now as some time has passed. Thanks.

I would ask your Dr.

I personally would not take reclast. If you have a side effect from it , they can do nothing for you . It attaches itself to the bone and is there for a yr or more. That is just my opinion. I was told that I should take it but after massive research decided that it was too new.

I had the Reclast IV done Apr.16 and had no problems with it so far. I too had stomach problems with the Actonel. But I had to do something for the bones. I was a -3.8 on the T score. I wish you well on what you decide to do.

Hi Dot1

I can tell you from personal experience the pills do cause some to have tummy trouble. I found a tip that helps. My Dr has me taking prilosec the night before. He also said I can take tums too before and after the pill. God luck with your decision.
