radioactive bone scan and elevated bone enzyme

0 Recommendations

I had a bone density scan in May showing that I have osteopenia in both the hip and spine. I also had a blood test at the same time showing that Alkaline Phosphatase was elevated. This can indicate various bone problems. A month later, another blood test showed that I still have an elevated Alkaline Phosphatase.

My doctor has ordered a full body bone scan with a radioactive injection. Has anyone had this test?

Hi Poet Lady: I've had the test you're referring to, but not for the reasons you mentioned.

Since your ALP is elevated they probably just want to make sure everything is okay with your bones.

In my case I had the test because I had an elevated white count, fever and blood loss, shortly after back surgery, so they had to check for a bone infection.

Good luck...

Hi Poet-lady,
I also had a bone scan recently, also for different reasons. I had a hip replacement in December and am not doing well. They wanted to rule out infection, hairline fracture or inadequate attachment. The test is easy - it just takes two visits on the same day.
Mine showed all well with the implant, but arthritis everywhere. That was the reason I had the replacement. So I'm seeing pain management specialists and doing a lot of PT now. So far it seems to be helping.
Good luck on your scan. Let us know the outcome.

On 06/25, I had the bone scan with the radioactive tracer.
The test showed that I have a problem with one of the vertebra in my spine. It is the thoracic T4 vertebra. Based on this, the doctor ordered x-rays of the spine in this area. I am now awaiting the results of the x-rays.
