Question about my T-scores

0 Recommendations

Hello! I am 46 years old and have primary amenorrhea. I feel that the problems I am experiencing now are due to me neglecting to keep up on hormone replacement therapy. I was recently sent for a bone density test and the doctor was not much help in explaining the results to me. She just prescribed fosomax but I am reluctant to start taking it after doing just a small amount of research on the internet.
Here are my T-scores and I was wondering if anyone had an idea of how severe it is? Just getting started on research and I would appreciate any help!

Thanks!
Maureen

Hormone replacement therapy Osteoporosis Fosamax

Hi Maureen: Here's an explanation of t-scores from the NOF

http://www.nof.org/osteoporosis/bmdtest.htm

Some people do well on Fosamax, and of course some don't want to take it. I know there is a lot of negative press on it, which you have to consider, but remember that the positive stories rarely get posted on the Internet.

Good luck, I hope you find a good treatment.

Maureen,
I was diagnosed at 33 with osteoporosis T = -2.5. I took Fosamax for 12 1/2 years and my scores improved to -1.2. I have decided to take a year off meds to see what happens. I am 46 now. I am not happy with all the things I have heard about Fosamax. So far I've had no negative side effects but who's to say they won't appear somewhere down the line.

Peggy

Hello and thank you for your response! I thought it over for quite a few weeks and decided to start fosomax. -3.5 turns out to be severe and after talking with a trainer at the gym I decided I have to do something. what inspired me was the statement that you do not hear positive facts on the internet. Thank you windblown and thank you both for your help!
