Sarah,
I'm wondering if you got my e-mail I sent to you personally a week or so ago?
My co-leader and I have just started the N. Dallas NOF osteo. support group. We had our first meeting last Friday (Sept. 19). It was great. We are so fired up! We are busy planning a 3-speaker event, and reaching out to our community to spread osteo. awareness and prevention in various other ways.
How was your first meeting?
Jennie

hi
I did not get the personal email. I have been gone all week we had an unexpected death in family. I could not have the meeting I was out of town for the funerual. Now I am back and getting the word out for october. Working on articles in the newspaper for the support group and national osteo day.

I am glad your meeting went well keep me posted.

Jennie & Sarah, would you both be willing to detail your progress? Other community members may be interested, but are not sure how to go about leading a support group. Jennie, how many members did you have at your first meeting? Did you advertise for members? How are you planning the 3 speaker event? What speakers will you have? How are you getting the speakers? Where do you have your meetings? Sarah, are you placing an ad or have you been given article space in the newspaper? I think it may help for us to know how much time you both invest in this support group. Hopefully, more community members will follow your lead. Thanks. Sandi

Hello
Yes I will be willing to share the details of my support group. I have one of the main radio station that are going to announce the meetings for me. They are also on the web with message boards right now I have 2 messages on their. I have the local newspaper printing the meeting in the section for me. I am tryig to get them to do an article on Osteoporosis for me. Tommorrow night I am going to speak to someone and get all the information on the clubs in my area. I am going to make flyers. I have spent alot of time getting ready, but I enjoy it . Soon I hope to have both Support groups going one in Paris, Illinois and the other in Terre Haute, Indiana

Sarah, Sandi,
That's terrific, Sarah! You are already on the air, wow!
Do you have anybody helping you?
There are just 2 of us in the N. Dallas group! As co-leaders we met for an organizational meeting last Friday. We are hoping a public meeting with 3 good speakers will attract members. We are working with Sandra from NOF all the way, so we don't mess up! We have already made some good contacts. We left the meeting excited by the possibilities ahead of us. We are convinced that there are many folks in our densely populated area who want to take an active role in the management of their disease and meet others who feel the same way. We have no regular meeting place as yet. All in good time!
Jennie

Good work, ladies. Please keep us updated on your support groups. Sandi

No I have no one helping me . I am also working the Sandra from NOF. Next Tuesday I have a meeting with the person that is in charge of the other support groups at the hospital. She is going to put me in contact with the groups in Paris. The radio and news room I have done on my own. I do have alot of support from my partner at home. He has been my sounding board as I type on the computer.

Sarah, and anyone else who might be interested!

Our North Dallas Support Group has it's first public meeting on Saturday, October 25th, at Richardson Regional Medical Plaza, 403 W. Campbell Road - Conference Room 3, Richardson. We will meet from 10 - 11 am. It is an opportunity for osteoporosis patients, caregivers and their families to share their experiences, make new friends, and learn more about osteoporosis. All welcome! If you live in the North Dallas area, please come.

How are things going with your group, Sarah?

Jennie

Hi
Good for you guys. My meeting is thursday night. I will email the first of next week to let you know how things go. Good luck on yours.

Hi:

I am very interested in starting a support group in Santa Rosa, CA. I plan to talk to my doctor about this, thinking he might know of existing groups in the area, other interested people to join me, and such. I have asked NOF for help via an e-mail, but so far have not had a response.

Any suggestions from this wonderful on-line group would be helpful.

Take care, Betsy

Hi All:
We are interested in ideas as well.

Hi, do you have any specific questions? If you are looking for a place for a support group, check with parks, hospital community service departments, also book stores. Often, a book store will give free space if the support group leader mentions osteoporosis books. (Members do not have to purchase). I have osteoporosis pin and ivory ribbon card that I would be happy to send to any support group leaders. Please message if interested. Once you have a place for your meeting, many newspapers have free listings for meetings. There is enough NOF information on the NOF website for support group leaders to use. Your members may be interested in a safe movement print-out; also the affirmations. If you can't locate, please me know. I'll be happy to help. Sandi
