KMFDallas, thanks for posting the Kaiser information. When I attended an NOF meeting, I had the opportunity to listen and speak with Dr. Richard Dell from Kaiser So Ca. He was very impressive; very passionate about the care of people with osteoporosis; especially elders with osteoporosis.

KMFDallas: Will you attend the conference there in October?

Thanks for posting this.

KMFDallas,

Thank you for posting the osteoporosis guidelines from Kaiser. Everyone should take the time to read these guidelines because they are current and comprehensive. Even those of us who are not following current medical guidelines should know what they are and note any changes.

I've noticed that they are not alarmed at all about vitamin D so long as as it tests 30ng or above. And they don't recommend testing anyone for D levels UNLESS they have osteoporosis. This is why so many of us are getting a little hot under the collar. Note: Automatic bisphosphonates after dexas. Wonder what their policies would be if a patient insisted on having their D levels tested?

Wish I could, my work travel schedule will not allow it this year. Keep us posted on the event

Well, if I still lived in Plano, I'd go. But it's not going to happen from Georgia.

I bumped up my discussion post Survey because I wrote a post about Dr. Dell and his clinical trial at Kaiser Bellflower, So Ca. It may be of interest.

Millie123 is right on about the vitimin D. Why aren't people being tested as a PREVENTATIVE MEASURE to make sure there's enough D, mag, k, and other known needed elements necessary for absorption of calcium into the bones? Without these elements, absorption simply does not happen. I would certainly hope that health is the main concern of our health industry and not profit. Why aren't we being 'treated' holistically with prevention (testing for being healthy, and then use diet and exercise) rather than wait until we're sick and put on a drug? The health care industry gives lip service to holistic and preventative health but our Drs aren't trained in it. Instead, we have lots of drugs as the first answer to healing a person and people don't want to change their lifestyle (denial is easier - taking a pill is easier than eating veggies instead of meat and sugar and lifting weights). Has ANYONE actually reversed their osteoporis using drugs, or in any other way, where the bone inside is NATURAL new bone that's flexible, not brittle where I can still ski and fall down like I've been doing for the past 45 years? I appreciate antibiotics and other incredible life saving drugs, I'm just saying why not have prevention and testing before 'bad health' happens? The drugs are the 'last house' on the block after the damage is done.

Well said, LindaSS. Bumping this one up again.
