"Amgen’s experimental bone drug, widely considered to be crucial to the company’s future, has succeeded in its most important clinical trial, sending the company’s shares up sharply.Amgen said the drug reduced the risk of both spine and hip fractures by statistically significant amounts compared with a placebo in a three-year study of 7,800 postmenopausal women with osteoporosis, a disease marked by fragile bones. The positive result will allow the company to apply for regulatory approval of the drug, called denosumab. "
