I should have added that the information was validated by email correspondence with Rebekah Rotstein. Rebekah has done course work with Sara Meeks and Sheri Betz. Rebekah has been invited to join the community.
Rebekah is a young, vivacious, curious Pilates teacher, diagnosed with osteoporosis herself, who is living life to its fullest as she explores movement to remain strong and vital and safe from injury due to the osteoporosis and also teaches others to do the same.
I am so glad she is helping to get the word out to the public that safety is necessary to live this full life that we all want.
Thanks, Rebekah.
Thanks for the kind words Sara, and thank you to the moderator for asking me to join the community.
As Sara mentions, I am a Pilates instructor working with this population and I also have the condition myself (which has improved from the initial diagnosis four years ago.) I was already studying it and working with those with bone loss professionally when I found out that I too had it and have since developed workshops for other professionals and the public. I can personally relate to the fear that many of you experience but it's critical to find empowerment tools - exercise being one that I strongly advocate - and to not let osteoporosis define who you are. Knowledge is power and power is strength!
hello Rebekah
I am like yourself a Personal Trainer and also diagnosed with osteo. Most of my clients in the gym are those with osteo and I have also finished my course in "Pilates for Seniors". It's wonderful to be pain free and be able to help others to be pain free, starting from daily functional movements to physically fit. I live in South Africa and the percentage of people been diagnosed with osteo is horrific. I am the only one in our gym and in Pretoria (were I live) that does this type of training and did the senior course of Pilates with a lot of osteo exercises. This was a interesting and functional workshop.
now that my extra swottings and courses for the year has come to an end, i will have more time to surf our NOF site and meet all you wonderful guys and girls.
sunshine greetings
lynn
