I was treated 5 yrs ago w/ Forteo- did well- and gained bone mass( have a serious case of Osteoporosis- no spinal fractures yet )- went back on fossamax- then
got breast cancer- went on Tamoxifen( that is supposed to help the bones. I was doing well for 4 yrs- and the last 2 yrs i was on Fossamax 70mg only every other week. Now my latest bone test went down 3%- the endocronologist wants me on the medication every week now. I am so discouraged- take 1200 calcium and 1200 vit d- Have trouble w/ dairy products - exercise every day- light weights few times a week. I am afraid to take it every week- haven't heard such good things about it- ( jaw necrosis)- but I am going to a well known Ny city Dr- actually know as one of the best in the country- but I am really scared. Any one else can help or give me some words of encouragement???

I took Fosamax for 13 years with improvement in my scores (-2.5 to -1.2). The side effect of jaw necrosis is very, very rare with oral meds - it usually happens to those getting IV meds. I had an impacted wisdom tooth extracted earlier this year with no problems other than severe dry socket and slow healing. I am fine now. If you are not having any side effects from the Fosamax then you might not get any, at least that's what my doctors have told me.

Sure would like to hear an update from you after your doctor's visit.

Just a follow up. Wondering how you're doing and what's happening with you?
