My Diagnosis

0 Recommendations

I was just diagnosed today (May 15, 2009) with Est. Osteoporosis and it is depressing. I am a young father of two who over the past two years has dealt with enormous pain and suffering with no answers until today. I joined as I want to communicate with those who have this problem and tell my story to try and help others. Thank you for the invite and I hope to be back and hear from you soon.

Thank you,
Krajr427

Krajr,
We men account for 20% of the osteoporosis cases but I am an old man, hence it is disturbing to hear of a young man like yourself having it.
My first inclination is finding the cause, like exposure to radiation or in my case Celiac Disease, the number one cause of osteoporosis in men. Do you take prednesone other steroids?
Of course you will need to treat it.

Hi Krajr427,

Your story is a heart breaker. What was the eventual cause of the pain, fracturing of vertebra, compression or what? What treatment are you currently on?

Im 25 and I have been diagnosed with Oesteo Penia, which by my understanding is the start of Oesteoporosis. Its quiet upsetting due to having a very very mild form of Oesteo Porosis as well (BRITTLE BONES)

I was diagnosed almost 2 weeks ago and it was a shock as well. I happen to be female but it's awful news no matter who you are.
I've been on the warpath of my own research and that has made me feel a lot better - I just read today (in BOTTOM LINE - a terrific periodical) that vitamin K does indeed build bone calcium. There are alternatives to the drugs (an individual's choice of course) and it helps to talk to others with this diagnosis. It is a reversable condition (I've been told by doctors and physical therapists)- but we need to be diligent about it. You are not alone.

First off, Thank you all for your support. I do not take prednisone but do take Levothyroxine for Hypothyroidism which I read makes it worse. I was also told that I need to know why I have it before they can treat it. I guess so they can target a specific area or reason. The worst of my case is in the hip sockets or Femoral neck region. I have disc degeneration and L4 & L5 are torn and bulging. My spine specialist is confident he can fix my pain but also says he cannot touch me until I cure this Osteoporosis for fear of splintering my spine. I had a level one fusion in December 2008 and we are checking as it seems one of the four screws used in the surgery seems to be backing out in the follow up x-rays. More fun:) So degenerative arthritis up and down my spine, split and bulging discs along with the osteoporosis are causing my pain. Unfortunately there will be no repairing the bad stuff unless the Big "O" is reversed soon. I go to the endocronoligist tomorrow and will start to find more of the root cause here. Wish me luck:)
