Multiple compression fractions at age 47?

0 Recommendations

I had a chest x-ray this week for asthma/breathing problems and I was shocked when the radiologist said I have multiple compression fractures in my upper spine.

I have an app't with a rheumatologist next week but in the meantime I'm feeling a little freaked out about this. I had noticed that my back had started to hunch a bit but I thought it was just being lazy when sitting/standing. Now I'm worried that I'll be forever hunched over.

Can this condition be reversed at all or am I basically at the point where my only option is to try not to let things get any worse.

I'm wondering if there is anyone else at my age that has had this issue.

Thx.

Fractures Osteoporosis Pregnancy

I got 2 compression fractures at age 31 during pregnancy. I wasn't diagnosed with osteoporosis for a few years later but my back stated to looked hunched during my pregnancy. Sometimes these fractures can be treated with Kyphoplasty. It has to be a fairly recent compression fracture. At least that is what the doctor told me years ago when the procedure was fairly new.

Dear Spiffdeb, I share your fear of being hunched over. Apparently, this condition can be improved. Sara Meeks' book Walk tall Prevention & Treatment of osteoporosis addresses this problem. I don't know if this is what or the only thing you'll need but the book has some useful information. Google Sara Meeks to see what comes up.

I too developed compression fractures from pregnancy 6 to be exact and i am only 21! I also was left with quite a severe hunch but i have noticed 6 months down the track as my back is getting stronger my curve is slowly straigtening. It definately will never be the same but it has improved. I would reccomend do as much strengthning exercises and stretches as possible because it does help. Good luck
