moms compressed vertebraes

0 Recommendations

My mother is 81 years old and lives with me and my family. Lately, this has made her fifth compressed vertebrae. Repaired by vertebroplasty. What I would like to know is does this keep happening until there are no vertebraes left to repair? This is such a painful experience for her for all the years she has lived. What happens later? Do patients finally pass on from this disease? I wont put her into a nursing home. I will take care of her as she took care of me as a child. I need some information on what to expect. please.

Dear Suzesok: I hear your plea for help within your information on your mom. This vertebral fracture cascade CAN continue to happen until there is basically nowhere else to go. Your mother needs more professional help than a doctor performing vertebroplasty can give her.
She needs a referral to health professionals who can work with her on the more conservative management of this condition with the "bottom line" intention of arresting the fracture process.
It sounds as though she needs a brace and now there is a good one that people will actually wear and it is very effective. Called the Spinomed III, it is available by doctor's prescription and covered by medicare.
She also needs exercise/movement instruction to minimize bending and twisting movements and to begin to strengthen her back. She may also need an assistive device for standing and walking as she is probably unable to support her back in standing.
Please contact me privately for more specific information--sara@sarameekspt.com.
You need to act quickly to begin to reverse this process as it affects her internal organs and will affect breathing, heart function, digestion, elimination and so on. There is help and hope but the sooner you begin the better.
