All I know about Vit C is that apart from being a good one for fighting infection. It's also a good anti inflammatory.

I think Vit C goes down the toilet if you take more than the body processes! It is one of those that I can't imagine that mega dose helps with anything because of that? Correct me if someone knows better? If I remember right, it is better to take it throughout the day....space it out.....smaller amouts???

75,000 mg? If vitamin C was so vital to human survival, how do the Inuit people survive without the ability to grow orange trees?

Scurvy on board sailing ships what were often away from fresh foods for over a year was cured by the British when they began issuing limes (hence the term "Limey" for a brishish sailor.) But one day's ration of 75,000mg could keep an entire crew free from scurvy for a year.

Too much of anything is always bad. Linus Pauling who was convinced vitamin C to be a wonder drug and could prevent cancer as well as the common cold, died of prostate cancer anyway. And yutzy is correct. Vitamin C is not stored in the body as fat soluable vitamins like A and D, and you wind up making your urine more expensive and some supplement company that much richer, IMHO.

Say what you will about the use of mega doses of vitamin C, but you will never convince me to stop taking it. I take 30,000 mg a day, crystals mixed in my tea. I saw it first hand give my friends father 5 more years of good living after he was dx'd with tracheal cancer. I was having so much trouble with asthma and decided to try it. I went to the same dr. my friends dad went to. I got an IV push of 60,000 mg vitamin C and some B vit, I could feel the difference by the time it was half done, I couldn't believe how much better I could breath. That was almost 4 yrs ago and I have had to use my inhaler only twice since, (but I always carry one, have had to rescue a friend more than once with it). I'm not really sure if it builds bone density or not, but I know I won't stop taking it.
Have a great one,
Karen

Ten percent of the bone is connective tissue and Vitamin C is involved in its formation, so in theory Vitamin C can be helpful. you also need enough of the amino acids from protein and research has shown that adding 20 grams of protein daily often helps reduce bone loss.

Thank 4 responding....all over the board....Don't get me started lol....1st....Linus Pauling was a 100 year old when he died....Linus is the second greatest scientist under Einstein during last century.....u can take just about as much vitamin C as u won't....it won't hurt u....a board certified nutritionist is the doctor 2 see....

Hi, I always wondered too, how the Inuit diet could have included Vit. C, until I read 'Nutrition and Physical Degeneration' ( a record of remote 1930s cultures ) by Weston A. Price. He listed foods including caribou, ground nuts, kelp, frozen berries, blossoms preserved in seal oil, organs of sea animals " including certain layers of the skin of one of the species of whale, which has been found to be very high in Vitamin C " .
This book is a weighty tome, but worth looking at the many pictures, which tell a shocking story. Price tried to warn us in 1945 that our modern nutrition was destroying us. His findings have helped me to understand why I have such poor bones. But after making many changes with diet and supplements, I'm finding that prevention's a lot easier than cure !

The Inuit Paradox
this explains how the Inuit diet resolves the vitamin c question.

You can also get TIME RELEASE vitamin c tablets which may help raise plasma levels better than a megadose.

You may be able to take as much Vitamin C as you want but it's a water soluable vitamin (so isn't B) and what you take in one dose leaves your body when you urinate...hense the pretty yellow/orange color! :) Your body can't store either C or B. I was taking 1,000 IU in one pill and my system couldn't take it. Let's just say it was raising havoc on my IBS and I had to always be near the bathroom!! For me it's better to take it in smaller doses throughout the day...with meals.

Vitamin C stays in ur adrenal gland for 3 2 4 months.....livestrong.com

The pathway of vitamin C: absorption goes 2 the small intestine...the nutrient then circulates in the blood and stored in various tissues....the super high amounts r stored in: adrenal glands...pituitary glands....thymus and in the corpus luteum of females all up 2 4 months....scurvy is a vitamin c deficiency....teeth feel out and bones were bent....vitamin C is needed 4 bone health....
