Dr. Susan Ott has a very good website on bone health and osteoporosis treatment. A commonly overlooked fact is that medications will not work at all or not very well without concurrent or prior lifestyle changes. I tell my clients that just taking medication is going to give then very disappointing long term results. Here is the first paragraph from one of Dr. Ott's discussions.
When to Add Medications
Physicians must pay attention to basic prevention before writing a prescription. Medications do not work as well (if at all) in patients who have poor nutrition, vitamin D deficiency, or lack of exercise. In frail women and men, hip protection should be part of the plan.
