Let's Remember Why We Are Here

0 Recommendations

I hope we are all here to find support and to support each other. Let's remember that and not "bash" someone else because they have a differing opinion. Some want an all natural approach while others prefer to take one of the osteoporosis medications on the market. It is each person's choice how they approach this disease, and it is a real disease. Some are in denial of this but hopefully they will find a way to help themselves before they have a devastating fracture.

Let's also not "bash" the osteoporosis medications available without having first-hand knowledge about them. By that I mean that you have taken one or more of them and experienced side effects. It's one thing to share side effects you have had. It's another thing to frown on a medication because of what you have read. The media loves to focus on the negatives in society and we have to take it with a grain of salt and balance it against the thousands that take these medications successfully. If you choose not to take medications because of known side effects, that is your choice. But please refrain from scaring other people, especially new people on the board, out of taking them because you are afraid of them. We each need to look at the research available and work with our doctors to determine the best course of action for us.

Only you can decide what is best for you! And by the same token, please don't "shoot someone else" down because they are following a path that differs from yours. Let's remember to keep this a positive board and avoid negativity and bickering.

I agree that we must choose our words carefully and support one another in making wise decisions. However, let's not forget that drug companies spend millions promoting their products. We are bombarded daily with advertising urging us to take a pill for diseases that have dietary, lifestyle and environmental causes. We all need to be more aware of how much advertising influences our thinking and choices.

pgreene,
Well said. I have been reading this site for quite a while and my experience with posting did indeed leave me feeling trashed, bashed, and a few other things. I feel that I have some questions, first hand knowledge and experience that might help someone else; but I am not wiling to set myself up for abuse again.

Hello Kiaugh, Peggy (pgreene) and I (sdivas) are both NOF volunteer community moderators. I was sorry to read about your experience. Both of us read the posts daily and bring posts to each other's attention that may be in question. I'm sorry if we missed a situation that happened with your posts. I hope you will reconsider your position about questions and posting because each of us bring our life experience with this disease to the community in hope that the information will be of help for other community members. Please feel free to message either of us if you feel you are getting trashed or bashed and we will check out the posts. Every community members opinion is valuable. Thanks. Sandi
