Hello- New here and just reading the postings to educate myself about the group.
Perhaps I can add to this discusssion-
I've had kyphoplasty twice in a six month period. the last one, was in April 2008. The first surgery addressed T9 and the second kyphoplasty was performed on T6,7 and 8. Although it did help alleviate some of the pain, I still have fractures on the upper thoracic spine that give me pain.
I must say that the surgeries were very easily tolerated and I recovered very quickly from them. The worst part of the recovery was dealing with some very intense muscle spasms for a couple days. If I had taken the muscle relaxers that were prescribed, I probably would have done better. :)
Yes, I did see the article which prompted me to check the site. I'm aware of the doctors in my area that do the procedure, so I wanted to see if the site had valid information. I think it's good to have an idea of the doctors in our areas that have knowledge and do the procedure. My mother in law, age 90 at the time, did not have osteoporosis (according to her dexa), but she got out of the car, twisted and fell and suffered T12 fracture. She had the procedure done and continues to live independently in her own home. She said the fracture pain was the worst pain she ever felt in her lifetime, but now is pain free. The procedure may not be the answer for everyone, but we are fortunate to have such procedures available. Hopefully, having the subject title may help some community members to access the information if needed. Sandi
Did you happen to see Dr. Gott's column in newspaper today? It's about Kyphoplasty.
