hi everybody, 2 days ago i went to the grand opening of a clinic next to my house, and they were giving free test for differant things to people and they had a little machine called sahara clinical bone sonometer, and my t-score is -2.1 and my Est Heel BMD is 0.345 g/cm2,
i have no idea what that means, the chart says i have osteoporosis, does anyone know if theres a chance that the machine is wrong? and if not, does anyone have any ideas how this will effect me? as of now i never had any injurys with my bones before, exept for having a sprained foot from getting hit by a car at 11 years old. i also have a bad lower back problem for a couple years now, and people say that i slouch over alot i guess i dont really realize it. i havent had a chance to find a doctor yet, does anyone know of any good doctors in the orange county, california area that exepts medi-cal? im just nervous cause i cant find any anwsers to questions i have. i dont know nothing about this, does anyone have any idea about how long it could possibly take for this to really effect me? i thought this is somthing older people get, im actually a pretty THICK girl, could that make it better or worse having this? could this end up putting me in a wheel chair or something? i understand everyone's differant but could you guys possibly just give me some ideas in your opinion of anything i could expect. what kind of treatments are there, or any ideas i could use to take care of myself better? besides my back, i dont really feel bad, should i start being careful about not falling right now or could i still have years before i have to worry about it because im the mother of a three year old boy who im constantly chasing after, should i be carefull about playing rough with him? cause i mean he straight jumps on me and tries to beat me up and we wrestle around and even i play fight with the kids im my family that are 13 and 17 year olds too, is it possible for something happening to me doing that? i am in pretty bad shape (calcium wise) i have had gallstones when i was twelve and sufford with it for 10 years before the damn doctors would give me a ultra sound to test it cause i was uninsured. anyway im barely starting to take calcium pills does anyone have any good nutrition advice for me either cause im straight clueless about everything. im sorry everyone, i know im asking alot and i'll probley get the answers when i get a doctor but the waiting is driving me nuts! so anyone with any help me would be apprieciated very much.
thanks guys

Exercise Osteopenia Boniva Gallstones Osteoporosis

Jessica,
First take a deep breath. Next find a doctor that does the DEXA test. This will give you a more accurate idea of what you are dealing with.
If you have osteoporosis or osteopenia (this is the lesser version of osteoporosis) you have some choices, you could take the medicines like Boniva or Fosmax that the Doctor will recommend. If you look through this website you will find that a lot of people have really bad side effects from these.
Or you could go the natural way, I am just learning about this route.
Here is what I have learned so far:
You need to exercise, walk at least 30 minutes or jump on a mini tramp and lift weights. Do some balancing exercise (not sure what these are yet waiting for some books to come to learn more). You need to take more than just calcium. I take a calcium called Bone Up by Jarrow it has Calcium, D3, Vit K, Magnesium and some extras that your bones need to absorb the calcium.
I've also learned that I should get a blood test done to see where my Vitamin levels are like Vit D, Magnesium and Calcium levels are. You also might want to have them test your hormones, estrogen is important in bone health.
The website I found that gave me a lot of help is www.betterbones.com with Dr. Susan Brown. There is a page on this website that tells you the 20 nutrients you need.
Also, an Alkaline diet helps your bones, just google this and you will find all kinds of websites with lists of Alkaline and Acidic foods. They only thing I find confusing is that all the list seem to vary. The betterbones website tells you how to test weather you are alkaline or acidic. I've also seen recommendations to eat Kale and collard greens every day, and a study on prunes that says that if you eat 10 to 12 prunes a day this will increase your bone density.
I'm still studying on Weighted vests for exercise and a mineral called Strontium Ranelate that has shown bone density improvement.
Hope this helps
Marie
