how often to have a bone density (full body scan) test?

0 Recommendations

My primary care P.A. (physician's ass't.) is very good but says I only need a full body scan once a year. Is that pretty much correct? My risk factors are 1)I also take seizure medications, and bone density loss is a major side effect of those.2) family history--my mother lost 3" and I have had fullblown spinal osteoporosis since age 55.

I don't know what the need is, but I do know that my insurance will pay for a scan only once every two years. Does any one else have the same problem? And how do our medical-care providers feel about the need for frequency?

Had a full body scan in January of this year and it was my last scan as I do not plan on taking any Bisphosphonates. Been there and it changed nothing.
