Hi

I am due to have the yearly infusion of zoledronic acid [Reclast] quite soon a little worried as it seems an awful lot of medication to go into your system in one go, in two minds what to do. Any advice.

Hi Rozanne, I just joined from Uk as well! Like you, I'm deciding whether or not to have the Zolendronic Acid yearly infusion [read my post if you've time] (1st time after 3+ years on Pamidronate every 3 months). What I want is to have a new DEXA Scan first - as the last one showed deterioration after the years of Pamidronate. What previous treatment have you taken for osteoporosis? The logic for me is whether good diet & calcium/Vit D & exercise may be just as good or equal. I welcome your thoughts as well - or anyone out there - so we can make an informed safe decision!!

Hi SusanUSA

Thanks for your reply,I Have filled in my profile now and as you will see I have tried most of the oral bisphosphonates but they have left me with digestive problems, was on Livial for 8 years but was'nt allowed to take that any longer so I agreed to have Ibandronic acid infusions, now I am due to have the yearly Zoledronic acid infusion next week ,still doubtful wondering if I am doing the right thing, like you my T scores have not improved. As for exercise I was told to walk and not to jar myself in any way as this could cause fractures.I have spoken to my dentist to ask him what happens if I need any extractions after the infusion he said all patients on bisphosphonates have to be referred to the hospital .I had some jaw pain and was referred to a specialist but nothing was found. My consultant says he has not seen one case of osteonecrosis. How bad is your osteoporosis?how much calcium/vitD do you take a day?are you ok on the Pamidronate? I hope you dont mind all of these questions, but it is good to talk to someone in the same boat. After reading the posts on this site it seems you have a 50/50% chance of the infusions suiting you and I feel that if I say no that will be it as far as treatment is concerned so I dont have a lot of choice. Looking forward to your reply.
