Going to try the testosterone treatment

0 Recommendations

well my testosterone test came back at a very low normal reading. A 10 on a normal range of 8 - 30. Doc gave me the option of testosterone or reclast. I am going to try testosterone for a year and by then hope that denosumab is on the market if the Testosterone does not help. I might stay on the strontium as well.

ANyone have any luck on this one? LOL any guys anyway.

I think you've made the correct choice, with all I've read here about Reclast! My testosterone reading came back in low mid-range. This kind of surprised me, since we were never able to have kids. The cause of my OP is 60 years of undiagnosed celiac disease (malabsorption).

Why isn't your doc pushing alendronate at you? I thought everyone had to try the oral bisphosphonates first. I have misgivings about taking it, but it is cheap. I am also taking calcium, mg, vit-D, and strontium citrate. Good luck,

Tom

I have a throat stricture from years of reflux. NOthing serious and I had it stretched out a few years ago and it has been fine for awhile now but doc said that was enough to eliminate the oral bis drugs.

I have been on testosterone and Fosamax for over 2 years. I improved from osteoporosis to osteopenia. However I just stopped Fosamax due to the dead jaw risk. I'm looking at other alternatives such as strontium, calcium, etc. There is very little information on strontium citrate for osteoporosis and cant buy strontium ranelate . So If I use the citrate it will be on anecdotal data.
I will be on testosterone the rest of my life. I am 66 and when I started the testosterone it was as if I woke up to the world around me,
A friend was put on testosterone to prevent osteoporosis.
I will let you know how my next bone scan goes. It maybe 1 to 2 years depending.
Good luck

Hey Stu

Thanks for the input

how low was your testosterone number#

I don't remember the number but I was at the low, low end of normal and my doctor said I needed the help. Also measure the free testosterone since that appears to be the best indicator.
Hope this works.
