This in information that I got from the makers of
Fosteum --
About 20,000 prescriptions have been written for Fosteum.
Fosteum does not work like Fosamax or the other bisphosphonates. Fosteum re-balances bone turnover to a more normal level by slowing down the activity of osteoclasts and increasing the activity of osteoblasts, thus leading to the creation of healthy new bone.
Since Fosteum is a medical food it has different requirements from NDA drugs. The first is that all the ingredients in Fosteum must have GRAS status. That stands for Generally Regarded As Safe. GRAS is explained in detail on the website, www.fosteum.com.
In addition to the proven safety of GRAS ingredients, medical foods must also prove that they are effective for the disease or condition for which they are intended. There are many peer-reviewed publications documenting the efficacy and safety of the ingredients in Fosteum. If you are interested I can send you a list of references.
If I can be of any further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact me.
