Forteo Training

My first Forteo shipment will arrive tomorrow. Since there is not a "training class" in my area they are proposing to "train" me over the phone. Has anyone else done this? Sounds tricky to me. Couldn't a nurse friend do just as well?

Pain Forteo

It's really not that difficult to give yourself the shot

Doesn't hurt either.

I believe the information disc they gave you should show you how.

The pen holds the Forteo. You twist the needle on to the top of the pen. You pull back the bottom of the pen, which dispense the correct amt. Remove the protective sheath over the needle. "Pinch" a little skin on your leg or stomach, inject needle (really, it doesn't hurt, may pinch sometimes, but doesn't hurt). Push the "plunger" thing and count to 10. Remove.

Don't be afraid of this - I'm more afraid of the potential long term side effects than actually administering the shot!

I'm sure everyone will reassure you also.

You don't need luck - you'll be fine!

J3 is right! I did not have any training, but do like she says and you will be fine...it is quite simple, only takes a few seconds and there is no pain.

Good luck.

Thanks so much - I also am worried about long-term side effects, but really have no choice except to take the Forteo, so we shall forge ahead. It's nice to know there are others who have done or are doing this. Thank you again!

I too was very worried about injecting myself. The ladies are correct, it is easy and it doesn't hurt. Good luck.

It's a piece of cake! There are only a few steps to take. Those little needles are barely bigger than an eyelash. The first time I did the injection, I was absolutely overjoyed at how painless it is. Have you gone to the Forteo website? I believe they have an instructional. Your pen will also come with diagrammed instructions which are easy to follow.
Don't be afraid - you'll do fine. (Plus you get to hear all your friends tell you how brave you must be when you tell them that you give yourself a shot in the stomach every day. hahahhaha)

I DID IT! I'm so proud of myself! My "trainer" said that some people do not do the thigh or arm, but stay in the stomach (below the belly-button -- I thought above would be a good place, but she said no.) It did not hurt and I am energized that I can do this!! Anybody else stay with the stomach? Run out of places?

Congratulations! Wasn't that a relief to get the first shot over with?

I have only done the stomach - it seems like my thigh or arm may be more sensitive because there is more muscle and not much fat. I can't tell if I have run out of places or not, since I have no bruising or marks at all. Sometimes I have a tad bit of a pinching sensation, and I figure that I am probably unknowingly using the same spot too soon.

It was good to get the first one over with - it's the one I did while the "trainer" was on the phone. This morning was the first on-my-own. It went OK, but I have a bruise the size of a silver dollar. I guess I'll just have to get better at it!
