Forteo and weight gain

0 Recommendations

A friend's mother who is 90+ was recently started on Forteo. Her mother is extremely petite, probably not weighing even 110. She is active, drives, travels, etc. The friend says her mother has started gaining weight for no apparent reason. She asked me if weight gain was a side effect of Forteo. I recently finished my two year cycle (in February of this year) and have lost about 20 lbs. (even though I was not overweight) and have been thrilled about it. Nothing much has changed in my lifestyle (I am a fanatic exerciser, eat healthily, and have been, for my entire life, trying to lose about "20 lbs." Now it came off after finishing the Forteo.

Has anyone else found this to be their pattern as well, either on or off of Forteo.

Hi Ellen
I think so too I took my Zometa infusion last January and I gained weight for no other reason although I exercize and watch my diet. The problem is that I cannot get rid of the weight I gained but anyway gaining weight is much better that breaking the bones. best of luck. Magi

Well I'm taking forteo also and noticed I've gained weight and it's not easy to take off. Being on several meds I wondered which one could be causing it, because I also take Cymbalta which I believe can cause weight gain...so I'd like to think it's the meds and not me... lol... maybe so, I have another 10 months anyway until I stop taking it... so we'll see..

Thank you, Kathy and Magi, for taking the time to reply about your experiences with weight gain on Forteo. I will let my friend know.

Sincerely, Ellen
