Does anyone know about these books for Osteoporosis?

0 Recommendations

I found these three books in www.amazon.com, and from reading inside the books, and reading the reviews, they all sound great, But!!!!

1. Building Bone Vitality: A Revolutionary Diet Plan to Prevent Bone Loss and Reverse Osteoporosis--Without Dairy Foods, Calcium, Estrogen, or Drugs - Amy Lanou.

2.The Whole-Body Approach to Osteoporosis: How to Improve Bone Strength and Reduce Your Fracture Risk - R. Keith Mccormick.

3.The Whole-Food Guide to Strong Bones: A Holistic Approach - Annemarie Colbin

I have read and spend so much money on Osteo books, I don't want to keep making more mistakes, so to speak!

One of the books I have read was: The Myth of Osteoporosis .
I know allot of people here like that book, and recomend it.
I was not that impressed!!!

Thank you,
Have a Great Week-End,
April

I've bumped up a listing of books that are in my personal collection as well as some books that have been recommended by Sara Meeks and SequoiaHealth. Hope the list helps. Sandi

Thanks Sandi,
Where do I look for your list of books?

Also does anyone know about these Books that I put up?
One just came out a couple of weeks ago.

Thanks,
april

Sandi,
I did find where your book list is.
I noticed that one of your books was one that I mentioned here, which is;
"Building Bone Vitality".
I guess I should have asked, why you or anyone that has read these books, What you/they liked about the books, and did they try there Technque and did it work??

I'm not sure, but just from reading reviews, and getting a glimpes of inside the book of Building Bone Vitality, it was also about Alkaline & Acid diet!
Or what else is talked about ?

Thank you,
April

Aha! I knew you would find my list. All the books I have listed are in my personal collection which I have read aside from the books suggested by other community members which I included on my list. Building Bone Vitality by Amy Joy Lanou - 2009; 207 pgs. I've had email contact with the author. This is probably a book to read, if you are interested in a current book on the acid/alkaline balance for strong bones and possible fracture prevention. The information is detailed . Dean Ornish has written a foreword and put his stamp of approval on the information contained in the book. But try requesting from the library. "The Whole Food Guide to Strong Bones" is not a current book and the exercise information should be ignored. You can probably request this book at the library since it is an older book. Gillian was very kind to register on the community and write a post in regard to her book. Check Search for "The Myth of Osteoporosis" sdivas. Her post is within my discussion. Gillian's lifestyle is so different from my lifestyle in So Calif. that I really could not relate. I also feel the title often is interpreted by many people that osteoporosis is a myth. I do feel that Gillian has a sincere concern for people with bone loss, but I do understand your concern about the cost of osteoporosis books. I definitely have my favorites from my list which I feel will stand the test of time and are worth the cost, but everyone is different, so it probably wouldn't help you to know. I would suggest printing out my list. Go online to your library and see if any of the books can be requested. That way, if you find that you like any of the books, you can then purchase. Hope this helps. Sandi

Thanks Sandi,
Great idea.. I have also started to order books from my local library to see if I want to buy them.
I think I have more books then my library does though!!

I live in a small town near Yosemite, Calif. So most books I want have to be ordered from different Libraries. It takes a few weeks for them to get to me, if they do lol..
Darn , I was just in Santa Monica for a couple of weeks, and walked right past there library a few times. What was I thinking lol...

I do have acouple of books on the acid/alkaline diet, also test strips, but I was waiting for the Building bone vitality book to come out, and read some of the reviews.
Maybe I should pass on it! , or do you think it has some very good information in it?
Does the book also have some recipes with pictures?

Take Care,
April

The book has approximately 12 pgs. of recipes, but no photo's. I think I've read almost every book that has been written on osteoporosis, but it depends on individual interest. My personal opinion is that Dr. Lanou seems from my contact with her to have a sincere interest in people with osteoporosis. NOF has books and dvds on their website; www.nof.org for purchase, but otherwise does not review books/dvds. I'm sorry. I really can't tell you whether to purchase or pass. Any bookstores in your area should be willing to order the book at no obligation to purchase. It will give you an opportunity to glance through the book and see if it is a book that you want to own. But even if you have to wait a few weeks, the library is a very good resource. Sandi

Sandi Thank you for all the info..
April.

Hi April:
Books are a good reference but after awhile there is only so much people can say about osteoporosis. If you are looking for a startling revelation or secret, I have not seen one yet.

I liked The Myth of Osteoporosis for several reasons. Gillian Sanson did a great job of researching the book. She also takes a lot of the fear out of the condition. She also redirects our focus to fracture prevention and away from DEXA scores and she brings up several interesting paradoxes that need explaining if the current hypothesis of cause and medication for cure are correct.

If you have further questions or if you want to join our osteoporosis support group please feel free to email me at bebonestrong@sequoiahealth.com.

I'll have to agree with Woody on THE MYTH OF OSTEOPOROSIS. I would ask your local library to order the books instead of purchasing them for yourself. Then if you'd like your own personal copy, you can purchase only those you'd like to use as a long-term reference.

Sandi,
Where do I look for this list? I can't find it.

cr61, I bumped up the Discussion Book List Revised. If the discussion leaves the Home page, please use Search for Book List Revised. Thanks. Sandi

April, you may be interested in the new Cooking Well - Osteoporosis book that I added to my book list. It is a new 2009 book full of recipes and nutritional facts for each recipe. Sandi

Thank you Sandi,
I'll go look for it lol..
Is that the name of the book: Cooking Well- Osteoporosis..?

I use to get the Cooking well magazines. Is this book from the same magazines?

Thanks,
April

Hi April,

Sometimes libraries will purchase books not in their collections. ALso, you might try looking on ebay to see if you can get books more cheaply. Used bookstores, too, although some of those might be out-of-date.

Susan

Cooking Well Osteoporosis doesn't have anything to do with the magazine. Marie-Annick Courtier is a chef and does guest speaking presentations on nutrition. You may be interested to know she is in Irvine CA. The book is fairly new and may not be in the library system for request, but the book is on www.amazon.com. The book includes foods to avoid; foods to choose and recipes from breakfast to desserts; including some vegetarian recipes. The recipes are very easy to follow; even for a beginner cook. Like any of the books that are on my list, it all depends on what you are looking for. If you have a Borders or Barnes & Nobles; both stores are good about ordering a book into the store without obligation to purchase which will give you the opportunity to glance through the book to be sure it serves your interest. It's another option if the library doesn't have the book in the system for request. Sandi

you said it right. what are we looking for a secret potent? we are all looking for the same thing--as soon soon as we can find it--working against osteoporosis--and is anyone having success at that. that is what we all are looking for...

your ANSWER was to the point==it has been said we each, then take what we read and experiment == search. and we share.

I HAVE GATHERED MOST OF WHAT I AM FINDING--ONLINE--WITH JUST HOURS READING AND DIGESTING. 'THE MYTHS OF OSTEOPOROSIS'[ first that I have heard of it]--sounds of warnings and redirecting... and there is the good of any information. what NOT to do....

how may I get to be part of your group? I WROTE YOUR BEBONESTRONG@SEQUOIAHEALTH.com ..
I WOULD like to talk freely about books and findings. there Are so many sites to exchange.
