Compressed vertebrae

0 Recommendations

My 81 year old mother fell two steps down in my home. An MRI showed two compressed verebrae. They vertebroplasty on her spine. This still has had no relief to her back. She has switched from hydrocodone to oxycodone, to pain patches, ect. How long does this last? And is there any relief in sight? She does get up every once in a while and walks with her walker, but cant sit for more than five minutes at a time. What, if any, can I expect the outcome to be?

I have lots of questions.
When did this happen? How soon after the fractures was/were the vertebroplasty (ies) done?
Is she spending much time in bed --aside from sleep?
Did she have PT post-surgery? Seems like she needs it now -- from a PT with expertise on post-VCF (vertebral compression fracture) care.
IN the meantime, check the NOF information for "vertebroplasty and "kypholoplasty""and vertebral fracture info.
Pertinent patient information would have been given to her/you prior to surgery.
Good luck!

Your Mom has a long road ahead of her re: compression fractures of the spine.
I'm 51 yrs old and have 4 that I can count.
I've been in the field of radiology most of my adult life.....sooooo when I viewed any
of MY films ...I knew I was in deep #$$#.
My Mom also has severe bone loss and more fractures than I recall.
She is 84 and going strong!!!!!!!
Life changes as does our bodies with age ...
What can you or your Mom expect??? Change is all I can say.
For me (at my young age..he he) I wear supportive shoes ie high tops.
I pay much attention to what I lift or carry...ect ect.
I find this to be a part of life and NOT horrible or awful.
My plan is to not "have" to look at the ground when I'm my Moms age.
Best wishes
Karina
